Back to the Drawing Board - 2,448 page views a day - can it ever be repeated?

I spent a long time building my blog up a few weeks ago, but then I went to Ireland, as the following graph clearly shows:

I got up to the dizzy height of 2,448 page views a day on 6th August, and 5th August wasn't bad either at 1,410.

I don't know if I can pull it off again, as certain posts drove the traffic, as seen below, and I can't write posts like that everyday:

So maybe now I will have to go back to the target I set myself a few weeks ago: 500 page views a day.  When I came back from Ireland I was down to 300 but today will be the 3rd day in a row where I am back on target.  As can be seen below I am at over 300 views at only 15:00 and hit 540 yesterday.

Why am I setting these targets? Well it is a game really, to keep my mind occupied while job hunting, having been made redundant on 5th July.

I am not putting any thought into what to write about. Inspiration is either coming from things I am doing (like days in Alexandra Palace) or things I like to participate in like Reasons to Be Cheerful, or the Olympics as with the above posts.  Sometimes I get my inspiration from things I hear on LBC 97.3.

The Wenlock and Mandeville thing was because I have genuine concerns with how they look, and with why they look the way they do.  So it was an added bonus that Google picked up on it thanks to lots of other people feeling the same.

As can be seen above the real post that skyrocketed was the one about Mail Online's racism, but once I heard about that on Twitter, it was like a red rag to a bull and I think I was up till 2, or 3 or 4 a.m. that night; writing my post and reading others.  I was passionate about the subject and accidentally benefited from the traffic of other people searching the discussion on Google.

So, I don't know how long it will be before another subject comes along that I am passionate about, but I am certainly not going to write for the sake of it, i.e. I refrained from jumping on the Prince Harry bandwagon.  Horses for courses.  I think he is entitled to a private life bless him.

Bye for now,
Liska

  1. Its very uplifting when stats are good and some times its a surprise what generates the most interest. I agree with you the Prince story. He's gotta unwind some how.

  2. Congratulations to you on having such good stats - even your bad days sound good to me! It's nice the blog is keeping you motivated and focussed but as you say, there's no point writing about stuff you're not interested in or it'll become a chore. As for Prince Harry - pah!
