Hi
Well further to my pre-review, we used both nappies yesterday. We were sent two for the purposes of a trial for this review.
They fit Aaron beautifully and the fluid goes through the fabric (touching his skin) and does get absorbed by the inserted cloth liners. He did genuinely remain dry. The fabric that houses the inserts is dry to the touch - amazing!
I washed them Saturday which was easy. I found drying them easy too, even though I am in a flat and haven't started to use the washing line this spring... yet.
I was very apprehensive about using them but it was in fact easy. They say you can leave the inserts in when you then wash the nappies, but I took them out to see (1) how wet they were (to check absorbency) and (2) to see if they smelled, as I was conscious I wouldn't wash 1 straight away (you'd wait till you had a few wouldn't you...). They didn't smell at all. Aaron's pee doesn't smell......
The only thing I found is that when the nappies have the inserts in, and they are folded they are very bulky... As Aaron gets through 5-6 in a day, I always take out 8, so I have a couple spare if there's an accident (like when he's teething he can be known to do 4 poos in 4 hours). Anyway, taking 8 out for the day would take up a lot of space... So before I write the final review I am going to find out how other people manage with that...
It does seem crazy how many nappies go in the bin and onto landfill. In fact one day I piled them up just to drum it home to me:
I have washed the 2 I have tonight with a view to using them again before I write the all singing all dancing review - sorry I don't want to rush it.
Oh and by the way, the ones we sent are version 4 and it is true that they are a good fit etc...
Bye for now,
Liska

A pre-review and a bum know nothing
Hi,
I am a bum know nothing who is hoping to be a Bum Genius....
I have been sent 2 to review, and as the whole reusable nappy thing is a big deal for me, I have been busy researching, in my quest to be a genius.
So it all began whilst reading pregnancy magazines... I decided I would use reusable nappies, and this is a big deal as I am far from a green goddess.
So, February 2010 we marched off to the baby show and spent over an hour on 2 nappy stands, one of which was Bum Genius. Hubby and I could not agree on the brand, so we said we'd mull it over, over lunch...
We were intent on walking away that day, having chosen, BUT we were at a "green" stand later and the man there said don't get them now, go and get a voucher from your local authority first and ensure you get the best deal. Someone else said you don't want the hastle of washing when they're newborn, so get them later, but with me, if I don't strike while the iron's hot, I don't strike at all. So here I am, still using disposables and Aaron's 9 months and the cost DOES stack up and the refuse DOES add up....
Luckily I joined Fuel My Blog and as a result have been fortunate to be selected to review Bum Genius, and perfectly, THAT was the brand I'd chosen at the Baby Show....... how very fortunate :-)
They were sent to us by BabyKind.
So they arrived Friday 11th March and I spent the weekend reading up on them, and what I started immediately, was tipping Aaron's poos into the loo, to get used to doing so. Very very easy to do, now he's on solids.... Don't know why I didn't always do so....
Anyway, they need to be washed before use and I have not done so yet, but before the week is out, Aaron's bum will meet my genus and we'll have a review by the weekend, and before Monday. That's my goal.
