Keep Your Germs to Yourself

Dirty hands? Then wash them... That's what I do.  I'm talking about the dirt you can't see though.  You know those sneaky germy bacteria...... the invisible folk!

A few months back Aaron had norovirus and I was REALLY proud that only he had it, as I know it is common that it would normally go on to infect the whole family.

I always intended to write a detailed blog post about it, as the info I found online when he had it was limited, but now I don't even remember enough of what happened.  The only thing I remember is that the vomiting clears up days earlier than the diarrhoea does, and it breaks your heart how long that goes on for.  I can honestly say, it was MORE distressing that the chickenpox which is saying something.  The only sad thing about the chickenpox is how many scars Aaron's been left with, but I am hoping some of them will clear.  Before I got busy I was putting Coconut Oil on everyday and that was working a treat.  I hope I haven't left it too long to take that up again.

Anyway, I sometimes regret that I only toilet trained Aaron when he was 3 years old, but you know what, when he had the Norovirus I thanked God for those nappies about 100 times!!!  We were really alert about laundry and washing our hands, which is why I think we - as parents - were saved from getting it too.  I thanked God a thousand times that I wasn't single too, as you need both parents when one is holding a crying sick baby at 3 a.m. whilst the other changes bed linen!

Anyway, moving on from Norovirus...

My last day in Ireland, 18th September, I got the flu, and I would say today is the 1st day I feel free of it.  Again, only one person was ill! Me!  I honestly think good hand hygiene contributes to that.  I am a huge fan of Carex.

We had lots in during the Norovirus but shortly before Ireland I had run out so when I was asked if I wanted to try Cussons Carex *new* antibacterial hand creams (nourish & protect and hydrate & protect) I nearly bit their "hands" off :-)  Obviously I said, you know what, of COURSE I will review and write about it, but send me some Carex too pretty please.  I thought they'd send the ones I am well used to from buying them oh so often, but no, I got THESE funky flavours, look:

Family Favourite Fragrance

The Strawberry Laces one has to be smelled to be believed.  It will make you alert and smiling at every hand wash or maybe that's just me ;-)

I accidentally discovered just now that it will soon be Global Handwashing Day on 15th October and when reading about that, I read about Carex in Ghana, and it's nice to see people being educated on getting rid of germs by cleaning one's hands.  Like I say, I am a huge fan of Carex.  I never find that it gives me dry hands, so I am never one to make a grab for hand cream after washing my hands, BUT pushing a buggy in poor weather conditions, really really plays havoc with my hands.

I spent the whole of last Winter with aged looking sore hands and it was because I was pushing a buggy whether it was raining, snowing or frosty and no gloves.  That won't be me this year as we don't use the buggy anymore (yes if anyone who knows me reads this, yes we used it yesterday but it was a RARE exception)...

But if it will be you, and if you are as obsessed with me about germs on hands, then get your hand cream to be antibacterial with these bad boys:

GENIUS

Nourish & Protect and Hydrate & Protect
The official blurb is:

It comes in 2 varieties
  1. Nourish and Protect with extra Vitamin E, and;
  2. Hydrate and Protect with Aloe Vera.
Supposedly "they're great for mums 'on the go', as they're a handy 'handbag size' and easy to apply!"  I personally, would have to agree with this whole heartedly #Sold!!!

I wanted to tell you which one my favourite is, but to be honest they both smell faboulous!!!  They both soak in beautifully too and they don't leave an oily residue that takes hours to clear.

You know, I was sent TWO of each, so to check if you are still reading, I will now say that I will send my two spares (one of each) to whoever is first to leave a comment.  If two of you do, within minutes of each other, then I will get more! :-)

Anyway, if you've already tried them, I would love to know what you think.  Let's compare notes after Winter when we can say that they've protected our hands from the British Weather :-)

P.S. sorry I have not been blogging often but I have been a tad busy - normal service will resume shortly xxx

Disclosure. Although I was sent all products free of charge, it doesn't take much of a nudge to get me raving about Carex and it's a product that's next to every tap in my flat.  All words as ever are my own!

Why We Are Not Going Outside to Play in The Snow - UK London Friday 18th January 2013

There isn't a person in the UK right now who doesn't know that it is snowing.

AND it is sticking on the ground!  Even in London.

I have made this collage of our window views.  We can't go out in it as Aaron is very sick.

It was already coming down when we got up so I have no idea when it started.
It's odd as we had snow on Monday which didn't really stick and then it completely went away to the point where yesterday was really sunny with a clear blue sky. With a day like yesterday you wouldn't expect to wake up to this.  It is very pretty when you are inside looking out at it, and don't have to worry about travel restrictions.

A couple of hours ago Aaron's nursery sent a text (he's never gone there on Fridays but they must have sent it to all parents).  It said that parents HAVE to collect children at 15:45 (it's normally 18:00) that they have had severe weather warnings (so are closing early).  I feel sorry for parents who now have to approach their boss to say that they need to leave early.  Yes, some people can work from home, but not everyone.  Maybe some bosses will be totally understanding - here's hoping.

As Aaron has been on medication since Tuesday night (calpol and nurofen) and does not really have an appetite, I am clearly very worried about his nutrition which he needs if he is going to have any chance of fighting this virus, which has seen him with flu symptoms, an eye infection AND an ear infection.

So I resorted this afternoon to JUICING as Aaron LOVES to help me, by feeding the juicer, and he always drinks our creations.

This is made with a WHOLE pineapple and about 5 apples.

It really is YUMMY, and naturally very frothy like a smoothy:

Success and Happiness

Morning,

ahhhhhhh I feel a little human again...

Aaron hasn't slept in his cot for weeks (long story)but last night he was there from 1:20 till 7:00 a.m. and I slept deeply for the first time in weeks.

I knew my flu was being contributed to by the lack of sleep; after all it's my 4th sick week (in week 3 I got a relapse) and the proof is I feel a little better today.  No! A lot better!

Can't write much as Aaron is breastfeeding on my knee and I am typing one-handed.
