Avoiding Growth, Self Sabotage and Being a Spiritual Mum on the Run

As a spiritual Mum on the run, the easiest way to avoid our inner work, is to go out. Out to the park, out for a walk, out of… our very selves.
A late bonus extra month (and more) of Summer, the driest September since records began, means we had some more of this.
The Autumn leaves reminded us that this would soon end, but the temperatures allowed us to remain in denial. A cold snap came, maybe Autumn was here after all, but then we were teased with a glorious hot Halloween.
All of a sudden Christmas is in our eye line, yet Summer is not long since waving goodbye, still very visible in our memory’s wing mirror. This year it would seem Autumn is to be beautiful, with less layers required. The wind and rain have made an appearance but only fleetingly each time. Those of us whose mood is so effected by sunlight have had a stay of execution, before the dishwater overcast grey skies come to get us.
Let’s batten down the hatches, and be ready, before the call of nature makes it an absolute requirement.
So what makes you tick? The energy of “now” is asking us that. Some bloggers are harnessing this and posing that question directly to you. You can join in with Mama and More’s weekly #AllAboutYou linky . When I first wrote this post I linked to http://www.mama-andmore.com/2014/10/all-about-you-link-party-with-change.html
which that week came with the bonus of a way to connect via Instagram using the hashtag #AllAboutYouNow
But now, this week's post is just as inspiring "All About You Link Party"
My inner journey has been too long, in recent years, because I am in resistance, rather than actual spiritual practice and it is simply because the changes that transform us the most, are the hardest to embrace, especially when we are naturally the sort to self sabotage. When we are at the edge of a time of great growth or transformation, that - with me at least - is the time to run for the hills and do ANYTHING other than GO WITH IT.
This is the time when inner, not outer work is required. I am finally embracing these darker months, as I know they will facilitate early morning yoga. Rising 2.5 hours before dawn, for the special ambrosial hours, is a more respectable time of day in these winter months than it ever could be in Summer. For someone like me, who has not practiced yoga since 2010, starting a morning routine that commences at 5 a.m. is considerably easier than 3 a.m. Even more so, given that I am a morning person trapped in a coffee addicted body. Yes, I will be dealing with THAT addiction too, and resuming my consumption of delicious homemade yogi tea, which incidentally is a beautiful aroma to fill your home with at 5 a.m. The warm mug, that accompanies you to you yoga mat.
Do you take on the feelings of others? Like a sponge? Such that you don’t know where your feelings begin and their feelings end? You may too be an empath like me. I have been researching this for some time now, but it is also considered by Mom On a Spiritual Journey
Another question. Is it even possible to BE spiritual AND be a MUM and be in the WEST? This is a question I have been asking myself daily since becoming a Mum in 2010. If you too regularly ask yourself this question, then you may enjoy this read: What if Budha Had Been a Mum? A thought provoking quote from that very post:
What if enlightenment is simply our ability to live as we do while not seeking a magic panacea for life’s challenges … and what if that includes not comparing our current world to the world that existed in the times in which those masters lived?
Because, after all, it is being MINDFUL in those challenges, that makes us who we are. Also, those challenges, reflect who we are. We create our own reality, and it begins inside, not out. It begins with our intentions, our desires, our self worth. On the horizon, we see what we believe in, and we then draw this to us. We can manifest a new horizon. When we choose to steer our ship, instead of being flung about by the waters of the sea, that’s when true transformation begins. Hey let’s even CHOOSE the ship before we get in.
Let’s make as much effort designing our destiny as we do in putting together that Autumn craft that we so badly want to post on Instagram. I write because I am avoiding craft. You may craft because you are avoiding writing. Let’s decide where our points of resistance are, and dive right in. The things we find the hardest to do, are often the ones we see the most sense of satisfaction from when completed.
Also, when you do something that nourishes your very soul, the world can tell. All of a sudden, like minded souls will connect with you. They sense that you are connected with your inner divine, and you doing so, means they suddenly realise they can too. It's like you shining gives them permission to shine too. There's a famous quote along the lines of that right? A bit of a higher version of “smile and the world smiles with you”. Remember:
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” - William Arthur Ward
We are now in the Aquarian Age, where people have to have a personal experience of what we describe. We have left behind the shackles of the Piscean Age where people would take our word for it. THIS is why children now don’t just “do as we say”. It is not  the case that we are all into middle class parenting that contains no structure or discipline. It is that the subject, the child, has changed. We as parents sense this. Children now, need to SEE US demonstrate what we want them to do, and then they need to EXPERIENCE it. So there is absolutely NO POINT in telling them to tidy their toys in a messy house. Yes they might do it if you yell and holler, but wouldn’t you want them to do it, because you have SHOWN them all the reasons that they should. In a loving home, a child will want to please you, because they can FEEL this makes things GOOD. As so many Mums realise, the change begins with US, and the child then follows suit. You’re angry, the child is angry. You yell, child does too. You are suddenly ZEN, surprise surprise, child is too.
If you really want to experience yelling less, then a fabulous book has just launched:
Yell Less, Love More and it includes a 30 day book club.
I know what my trigger points are, and I am working on them. I hope this book will further my journey, which reminds me, I must buy it for my Kindle today. I love the Book Tour blog posts that I have read. Lots of Mums/Moms out there embracing change.
Amanda, from The Family Patch, so eloquently explains the many benefits that can be experienced by getting out in nature. That post is a feast for the soul. A reminder of the me-time we HAVE to create. We do have to make this time for ourselves, and over recent years I have seen the blogging community get better and better at this. It helps when: role models like Annie champion this. That post is a feast for the eyes.
So, what have you done for yourself lately? To propel you on your life’s path? To ensure that your soul is growing, as your tension dissipates?
You know, you don’t have to attend a yoga class to experience its many benefits. If you are fit and able to do this simple pose, try Archer pose. It applies pressure to every cell in the body and strengthens the entire nervous system. By applying a stretch to the sex nerve that runs along the inner thighs, this exercise stimulates your potency to develop courage. Remember we are spiritual beings having a human experience, so if you feel your spirit soaring and your body dragging you down, time to do the breathing or the asanas required to address the imbalance.

The Day I Lost It

He's been on school dinners since he started school a few weeks ago. They're free now for everyone (for younger age groups) and thanks to school food standards, the quality is really good. At football on Friday I even sat next to Aaron's "dinner lady" as her son also attends football practice. I have been VERY satisfied with school dinners on all counts. My favourite conversation on the way home, is hearing him delight in telling me what he ate that day. My purse has also been happy with the fact that I am not filling my fridge with scotch eggs, babybels etc...

Then last night he remembers that we bought a "Planes" lunch bag in the Summer (the only reason we bought it was for #CapriSunSchool). He asked for the bag before bed last night and even insisted on having toast with chocolate spread out of it (the lunch box we bought to go inside it) as a supper.

So I let him and thought that was the end of it. BUT, I should have realised there was more passion behind this desire, as he insisted on bringing the lunch bag to bed (I am sure he did this in case it would go missing over night and to be fair it may well have done).

This morning, he remembered it JUST as we were going out the door. I gave him all the many reasons he wasn't going to have packed lunch and headed for the shed to get the bikes out. Normally he'd get out his while I get out mine, but he just stood there going on and on about it. At this point we were ten minutes early, so I tried rationalising with him, tried silently ignoring him. Tried all of the techniques that normally work.

By this time it was time to leave or we'd be LATE. I wish I could put LATE in font size 3,000 as I don't like to be late!!!!

He wasn't backing down, and by this point was being so loud about it, I was worried the neighbours would get upset, so I backed down, went inside to make sandwiches, but first shouted "get inside" at the top of my voice. OH THE IRONY given that what made me give in, was my worry over him, and the noise, and the neighbours.

While making the sandwiches I was shaking as I was so cross. Cross that this could become a daily thing, cross that he wouldn't back down and listen to me, cross that packed lunches would add to our food bill, cross that he was making the decisions, cross that all of this was making us late, cross that I LOVE him having school dinners, and this might all end, with no choice of mine involved.

It got worse not better....

Packed lunch made (with what I had in the fridge, which was luckily, enough, to rustle something not completely embarrassing), we then went outside but he refused to get on his bike. When he saw how cross that made me, he started walking to school. I called him back and he wouldn't listen, so I had to wheel the bikes towards him. It is nearly impossible to wheel two bikes along, and it was bin day so I was having to negotiate wheelie bins AND recycling. I finally caught up with him at the end of the road, ONLY because he is too sensible to cross the road by himself.

He then insisted on balancing the lunch bag on the handlebars and began to ride like that. Luckily as an experienced cyclist he managed it, and we rode the 8 minutes to school in complete silence.

Oh, actually, that's not strictly true. There was one brief conversation. He said "if you don't want me to have packed lunch why did you buy me a lunch bag?". Yep, my articulate boy used those exact words. I said "because it was work". Now he KNOWS about toys being delivered and he knows they are "work" so my quick witted boy said right back "but when we get a "delivery" (our code word for blogging review items)  I play with them right?" - he wanted me to say "yes" so that I would be implying that he is therefore allowed to "play" with his lunch bag. Well to be fair I DID. The first 2 weeks of school, when they were still on half days (which did not include lunch) I let him have sandwiches out of it every day in front of the TV... since starting school, on full days, he'd forgotten about it. The problem is, every day the teacher asks them during registration, "school dinners or packed lunch". They are allowed to decide each and every day. I would prefer if you opted in or out once a week, month or term, but no! They are allowed to decide every day. So he hears that every day, and finally he's decided "I'll have some of that".

No matter what reason I gave him this morning, why I did not want him to have packed lunch, he would not back down, and I gave him MANY reasons.

This morning I became a fish wife shouty Mum and I thought it would take HOURS for me to calm down. Luckily I spoke to a Mum outside school, and just that little chat, got the tears right out of my eyes, and saw my hands immediately stop from trembling.

Oh I have missed a bit.... so all of this drama... (1) the negotiating during the 10 minutes early that we had (when I was getting the bikes out) (2) us both shouting and me then making sandwiches and (3) his starting the journey on foot, all led to us being FIFTEEN MINUTES late for school. My anger and embarrassment compounded ten fold when I arrived at school because firstly, for the first time ever, Reception was joining ASSEMBLY and they were under time pressure to finish registration so us arriving at 9 instead of 08:45 was not ideal. I then had to FIND where the lunch box/bag goes and had to change his shoes as he cannot cycle in school shoes. As I was leaving, I heard them say "it's school photo day" and that was THE icing on the cake. I always do his hair beautifully and today, the drama meant I had not....

Anyway, back to the school mum talking to me outside school. She shared this with me, and it's actually really really helpful:
The post is part of an online book tour (for YELL LESS LOVE MORE), and I think I may actually buy the book. I haven't used my Kindle in over a year, and will have to "find" my charger etc... as it is cheaper on there. But that's my plan.

What are your trigger moments?

Crying as I Type This - My Today Poem Penned: Naughty Boy

Oh naughty boy naughty boy
where are you?
Right next to you Mama,
stuck like glue.

Oh naughty boy naughty boy
is school where you'll be?
No I'm good for my teachers,
just naughty for thee.

But naughty boy naughty boy,
You're hurting my head
I know Dear Mama,
let's play and have fun instead.

But naughty boy naughty boy
why do I see your worst?
Because Mama I love you
Till my heart's filled to burst.

But naughty boy naughty boy
Don't you know, a good boy's better for all to see
Yes Mama I know that very well,
but you'll love me no matter how I'll be.

But naughty boy naughty boy
I can't love you, I need rest.
Because Dear Mama
I've put it to the test,

But naughty boy naughty boy
What do you mean?
I mean beautiful Mama,
I'm heard AND I'm seen.

I'm here when you wake,
I'm here when you sleep,
I'm here to give cuddles
and smile when you weep.

I might make you tired
I might make you stressed
But we both know for sure
It's me you love best!

Anyone else find they have to make a special effort for you/me time since becoming a parent?

Well I don't often do it, but since becoming a SAHM (stay at home mum) it has become EVEN more necessary, as if that was at all possible.  Considering I have adopted "attachment parenting" I find it is something I neglect as I am with Aaron from sun up to sun down, but recent events have taught me, me time gives me back my sparkle, as the Mummy Whisperer has been saying to be for years!

Last week I had to use a Christmas voucher and used it for a haircut (overdue since about 7 months) and a pedicure (my toenails were hoofs) and I felt like a MILLION dollars afterwards.  Pity it was AFTER Cybher (which incidentally also gave me a spring in my step).

Anyway, #CountryKids forces us to remember to get some outdoor time so that we can showcase it.  #R2BC (reasons to be cheerful) forces us to find reasons to be cheerful, #SilentSunday forces us to be aware of great photo opportunities, and #MagicMoments forces us to consider what might have taken place that was magic enough to write about and share.

So I thought it might be ideal, if we had something that gave us a nudge to put ourselves first once a week, or more often ;-)

The ME time doesn't have to have happened on a Tuesday, just link it up on a Tuesday.  You can do the post in the days before if you like, but I will have the linky open each Tuesday and will pimp your linked up post out for you.

Anyway, people often abbreviate THE INTERNET to t'internet, so I thought TUESDAY could read T'you'sDay, which translated means The You Is Day, with the T' being short for "the" and the 's being short for "is".  Get it? Still with me? Hope so!

So....... do you think you've had some ME time recently??? Can you write about it by tomorrow?

I will share the linky here and in tomorrow's post.  Grab the code above which the lovely Nickie and Liz helped me with.  The actual code instructions can be found at Code it Pretty.  The best place to store your badge image seems to be Photo Bucket.

Best Photo of the Week

I just discovered a new linky over at Team Lloyd, thanks to seeing BrinaBird and Son joining in.

Team Lloyd

I am trying ever so hard to pick up yoga and meditation once again, after not having done any since 2010, since Aaron was born.

I have made some progress this week, so I would definitely like to choose the following as my "Photo of the Week".

It's a real photo of my mantelpiece, and it kind of represents my budha side being behind and secondary to Aaron.  Maybe just maybe they can live along side each other.  Maybe just maybe I can be a Conscious Mum :-)

Look Who's Looking

So we've all heard of the movie classic LOOK WHO'S TALKING.

Well THIS is Look Who's Looking.

A video taken from the angle of a two foot two year old when his Mum thought he only knew how to take photos, not flaming videos... The mum in this case being ME, yours truly.

Yeah I knew I had put on some poundage hence the 40 days starting Monday but I had no idea that to Aaron I look like THIS:

yikes:

Boot Cut Boot Camp Bootie!

Hi All

A few of us are starting a "plan" and it involves shifting some inches.

We start tomorrow.

Here's my motivation.  Let's call it Motivation Monday shall we....... or will I get in trouble because that already exists *commercial break while New Mum Online goes and checks* [talk amongst yourselves for a moment]...... hhhhhm it does.... wouldn't you know it, it's already done here.

Well does it have to have a name.....?

Here are my reasons to shed some fat.

  1. Just look at this photo! Look at the arms on that! This is a zoomed in version of the photo I used for the "green" post that I submitted for last week's "The Gallery".  Everyone left sympathetic comments that I looked great and that my arms weren't big, so I thought I would magnify the situation to help it drum home, to me at least [thanks for your kind words though...].
  2. When I went shopping for my return to work clothes (after maternity leave) the size 16s wouldn't fit...... but I bought them anyway... ooopsss.  Husband does NOT know that.... he looked after Aaron while I shopped and it was a VERY tense weekend to say the least.  Although the whole day was about shopping, I only left them alone in a cafe in Debenhams for ONE HOUR.  By the way the husband greeted me upon my return you would have thought I'd left them for a whole day.... I didn't dare tell him that I'd bought jeans that I would have to shrink into.... the shrinking needs to commence... I have been wearing OLD jeans to work.  I wouldn't mind but I left them BOTH with food....
  3. The husband was watching a home video the other day... he told me about it that night and I said what were you watching THAT for? In THAT video I was the fattest I have ever been. He looked shocked, and gave me a wake up call. He informed me that I am bigger NOW ......... WTF!!!!!
  4. I'd like to have pride in myself - I don't have that when I am the size I am now.  We watched a home video yesterday of our time in Japan in 2004, and I didn't recognise myself.... I looked GOOD.   VERY good and it made me sad as it was like I was looking at a different person.........
  5. When Aaron is old enough to care about what people look like I want him to be proud of his Mummy and not embarassed if she is waiting at the school gates.
I'm gonna leave it there for now, and save my energy for watching what I eat this week.

It's not even baby weight as I looked better in December than I do now.  In August the Dr weighed me at 88 kg, whereas a few weeks ago the Dr weighed me at 95 kg WTF!!!!!!!!!

Let the weight loss commence..... I NEVER thought that would be a topic on here, that was what Liska Life (my old blog) was for.....

These ladies are starting a plan with me. Tell us about it ladies:

Claire has now joined us after reading the above.  She wrote this fabulous post and can be found at
