Danceathon at Wembley by Team Honk for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day 2015

What with Danceathon and everything, wow, it's been an emotional week. I made a mad dash to TK Maxx to get their official Henry Holland Red Nose Day onesie on Thursday (a week ago today), followed by getting hair grips and a tutu skirt in Claire's Accessories. It's great to know that with those purchases you're making a donation to Comic Relief. A huge ten pounds goes to Comic Relief from each sale of the onesie for example. I do love it and have worn it three times already (for our World Book Day movie night, for Wembley's Danceathon, and finally for our school Danceathon), although the chances are high that I may wear it again tomorrow for Red Nose Day itself. It'd be a great way of taking part in Pippa's #MyKidsDressedMe. That reminds me, best put the washing machine on!

The above pic was taken by me, in the mirror, in the loos at school, as I changed into the onesie for school's danceathon on Tuesday. I don't know why/how I look so normal in it when I looked like a HOUSE getting into the Mr Tickle car outside Wembley Arena, as you'll see later, below. I think thanks to bloating, I have big days and less big days.

It was a long long day Sunday 8th March and a gang of us met at Paddington station:
Travelled to Paddington for Danceathon

We then had a long walk to Wembley Arena from Wembley Central.... except it went incredibly quickly as we were all busy chatting. Someone had said on Facebook the walk would be 15 minutes so I thought we could consider it a warmup, but looking at Google now, I am realising why the walk passed so quickly; twas only a wee 6 minutes. The walk was GREAT for calming my nerves and getting me grounded and centred, but it seemed that feeling was short-lived unfortunately. As with everything in life, preparation is everything, and it was a little lacking here - oooops. Arriving at the venue itself was superb as there was a Mr Tickle character AND a car that bounced and moved when you tickled its interior (if you could get into it first that is, which with my stupid rucksuck wasn't the easiest of tasks). This can be seen in full effect if you watch my Danceathon You Tube video.
Arriving at Wembley for danceathon Comic Relief 2015
We got inside, and the first thing to make an impact was the @PopChoir - they feature in my Danceathon Video, at 4 minutes in. Oh my God they were moving! Talk about heart-opening! I only wish I'd stayed and videoed them for longer, but I was like a kid who didn't want to be parted from his/her Mum. I felt that I needed to stay with everyone or I'd get lost. Later, when I knew my way round the venue, I realised how terribly silly this had been of me. Nerves eh?!?!?!?

So we found our way to the cloakroom queue, at which point I went into a complete panic. For no other reason than my mind was too blank to know what was in there... could I hand it in, when there may be something I needed in there? Also, I convinced myself that my train buddies would want to go home, and they'd be cross waiting for me, when I was in a long queue at the end of the night to pick it up (this was a real memory from nightclub days from *coughs* decades ago - yes, I am OLD)! This turned out to be an irrational fear, as when we left there was hardly anyone in the venue apart from staff and security. We were doing a group photo, post-event and they were patiently waiting for us to do that before politely shimmying us on our way. I went into the loos to empty the blasted rucksack, and it turned out the whole bottom half was easter eggs - 100 of the buggers - that I'd intended on handing to everyone. Turned out I never got chance to do so and carried them home again. I didn't realise the counter I emptied everything on to, was actually one of those flat designer basin things and at one point the tap came on, directly above my change of clothes, which I really hadn't needed to bring with me anyway. I was happy travelling to and from Wembley in my onesie. So, it turned out, the only thing I took out of my rucksack was Aaron's PLANES lunchbox, which had my vital snacks in. A side pocket had Nurofen in, so me and Jane took this opportunity to take the pain killers that would get us through the day - me for my plantar fasciitis and her for her knee. So to anyone who saw this inner toilet, rucksack car crash, I do apologise. I am normally the sort of composed person who looks out for everyone else, so it really wasn't me, neither was it helpful, for me to go into panic paddy mode :-(

When we eventually got on the dancefloor I realised I couldn't dance with my satchel handbag crossing over me, so I put that and my (Aaron's) lunchbox on the floor in front of me. It VERY soon became evident that I couldn't dance around my handbag. Just as with the cloakroom queue this wasn't after all a nightclub, despite its close imitation of one. Yes we danced for hours, yes there was loud music, bright lights and security but there was no alcohol ;-)

So I put my two bags against the wall, as I was dancing far left anyway, but security was tight and I was immediately told to keep them with me. Nell and Tinuke BOTH danced with rucksacks (as they were in the no bum bag gang like me), so really I should have brought a small rucksack with me (I have many) OR should have gone back up to Aly (who was kindly minding my bag while spectating and being @Team_Honk s online presence for the day) and swapped the contents of my rucksack for things I needed, strapped it on tight and danced with it on. I've danced while carrying a large Aaron so could easily have danced with the rucksack on my back, instead of two (in the way) bags at my feet, that nearly tripped up Kath. I made my overdraft bigger by getting the onesie, the hairgrips and the tutu, as I wanted to do everything by-the-book, but somehow still managed to put my foot in it - literally!

Suffice to say, I therefore didn't feel comfortable enough to dance properly, so busied myself making videos, 43 clips in total, which resulted in this Danceathon video which I am quite proud of, as badly edited as it is LOL:
When I did the school Danceathon, on Tuesday, I danced PROPERLY, being that I didn't have bags at my feet. BUT then the penny dropped, it WASN'T just the bags. At school I was near enough that I could SEE the instructor, whereas at Danceathon I was really far back, and as the whole thing was choreographed (and I am meant to wear glasses and don't) I really really struggled. I've deliberately waited 5 days to post this post, as I know in the initial days everyone wants to read HIGH posts, and so much of this sounds like sour grapes.

It's not though, I just didn't do enough physical prep, in that I didn't have a much needed bum bag with me, and didn't do any emotional prep as we had incredibly bad news as a family, at 2:30 in the morning, Friday night/Saturday morning. So I kind of went into zombie mode, emotionally, all day Saturday, and therefore didn't have my whits about me to be the bubble and bundle of positive energy that I normally am. To anyone who walked passed my cloud of panic, I can only apologise. I think there are probably a few people I do need to apologise to. This has been a hard post to write. Quite emotional. But that's my circus and my monkeys to deal with.

A makeup red nose
I am incredibly grateful to Jane to travelling to and from with me, including collecting me from home and depositing me at home, before and after our LONG train journey. Now she's a lady who was prepared. She even had red face paint in her bag, so I did her a Bare Minerals makeover, and she loaned me the paint so I could do cheeks and a nose - well it is red nose day (tomorrow) after all :-) We had such a fabulous time on the train, as you can see at the start of the video. The funniest bits aren't even on there as I was too busy having a laugh to film. Us on the train is probably my favourite pic from the day.

For the most part of the day, I danced with Nell and Tinuke who were great dancing buddies, but also Hatty who's not in these pics:

Story of Mum is a complete legend, and that's another legend seen below: Richard Curtis (he who's won so many film awards AND the very same man who started Comic Relief back in the 1980s with Lenny Henry):
Story of Mum and Richard Curtis at Danceathon
That's her Mum in those pics above, no, not her Sister. As well as starting #MyKidsDressedMe she also sold the above balloons, at 3 pounds each, in exchange for sponsorship and she danced unfettered in them ALL DAY. Proof being, that end of the day they're only just taking them off (then they rolled on floor and popped them, but I don't have a pic of that):
Story of Mum
We actually got a pic with the legend that is Richard Curtis too. Excuse the blur. I'd actually seen him wandering around for about 30 minutes and didn't have the confidence to approach him, despite recognising him. So funny, that when I eventually did, I only did so when others did and there was a queue. Hence the rush and the blur. We also got a pic with Emma Freud on Instagram, but it's crazy dark.
Us with Richard Curtis founder of Comic Relief
At one point my cousin, her husband and his brother came in to spectate. Which was a tear jerker in itself as she personally sponsored me 30 pounds. The only friend/family to do so. I only publicised it in Facebook statuses which she straight away picked up on. I was too shy to email/DM/text people directly. So, anyway, I digressed, I went up to the spectator's area, where I got some great footage, in my video above, like everyone dancing to Jesus Christ. At which point I also got a photograph of a photographer. I adore this pic for some reason.

At Danceathon, Tanya went on stage, to show her tattoo to the cameras (a red nose tattoo that has earned a lot of sponsorship), footage that I hope makes it to Friday's Red Nose day show on BBC1, but it is in my video above from 18:44 minutes in (along with the Team Honk accompanying applause) if it doesn't make the cut. Her showing her bum on TV very soon became known as #ArseGate on Twitter
Mummy Barrow arse Tattoo for Comic Relief
It is incredible how bright and empty and how quickly, the dance floor was, so soon after it all finishing. There was footage on the big screens of kids shouting out THANK YOU. I wish I'd filmed it, but here's some of Team Honk when it became time to say night night

Me and Jane were still BUZZING on the way home. We inhaled a Burger King with Kath from Dreaming of a Craft Room at Paddington station and scoffed our weight in sweets on the train. We then found some time to be #FunnyForMoney as that's what it's all about tomorrow.

What are YOU doing for Red Nose Day Friday 13th March?

At our school we did a Danceathon on Tuesday, for which all of the children, aged 4-11 are getting sponsored. (The traditional way on paper so I don't know a total). It was Zumba and was AMAZING!!!!

I've sold noses before and after school every day, with our PTA. I've just heard that we've run out, so we've got through over 300. Everyone has been so generous. With them being blind bags and 9 styles available everyone bought them in multiples, with one Dad even buying 20!

We don't have a Sainsbury's anywhere nearby, so we bought our red noses for 18 pounds for every 60 on the school's deposit scheme, and it was incredibly popular! People loved the convenience of buying them in the playground and it created SUCH a buzz.

We bought four noses on Tuesday at school after our Danceathon and our luck was in, as ALL FOUR were different look:

Four of the nine red noses available
But as I would like to have all 9 of them, I bought another one this morning, and my luck was out as it was a duplicate. I wonder, dear reader, do you have all 9 and how much did you have to spend to get nine? I guess it could become like stickers, where you swap them in the playground. GREAT FUN!!!

Oh, I am YET to reach my TARGET so I would love it if you could SPONSOR ME. The WONDERFUL people from +Funky Moves Dance Funky Moves Dance already have as have Hotter Shoes, who actually supplied the footwear that kept me with a spring in my step all day, like this:

A photo posted by Liska (@newmumonline) on

They really are INCREDIBLY springy. The fact that I have plantar fasciitis and was able to be on my feet all day, is really saying something about their footwear!!!! Even though there were times I did not dance, every time we were asked to jump up and down, I always did, and the springiness ALWAYS supported me. The promised comfort you get from Hotter is for real. This is what I was wearing:

If you want to watch a +Red Nose Day video that is HOT off the press, watch this. A beautiful lady called her twins Lenny and Henry:

Bye for now Liska

Let's Dish The Dirt Shall We? #NewsMumOnline

It's time for #NewsMumOnline again, and for the second time in a row, it's a blogging focus rather than a mainstream news focus, but then you did enjoy the last one right?!?!?! :-)

So, this time, it's all about dishing the dirt, because there's a lot of honking going on. Honking bodies, honking from home, and honking house cleaning. There's so much honking going on, that Mummy Bloggers have been in the Daily Fail THREE TIMES recently.

In case you've missed all or any of them, it's my job to bring you up to speed ;-)

So first up, Pippa from Story of Mum is giving some leverage to #HonkFromHome so that it's not all about that Wembley Danceathon #TeamHonkDanceathon. Pippa started #MyKidsDressedMe

So what actually happened?
  1. First up, Pippa was inspired by Summer Bellessa with this post: I let my toddler dress me for a week here's what happened
  2. So she did this Facebook post with photographic evidence of her doing same.
  3. Due to the support it received from lovely comments from Story of Mum fans, it all kind of took off from there.
  4. Pippa tweeted and it was kind of nailed when @EmmaFreud said "brilliant idea. We need to get the whole country doing this".
  5. Then Pippa blogged about it here: Would you let your child choose what you wear for charity
  6. Then it became a thing!
  7. It went in the Cornish Man except it's a Cornish wo-Man in this instance ;-)
  8. And then it went into the Daily Fail: Cornish Mother starts global fashion craze and the rest is history.
  9. Except the reason my blog post title of "dish the dirt" applies here, is because the Daily Fail COMMENTS are quite frankly heartless, so I have red arrowed down all the nasty ones, green arrowed up the few nice ones and commented myself. If you've read this far, can you do the same please and tip the balance in favour of nice humans? Thanks in advance!
  10. If you LOVE Comic Relief and Team Honk but can't make Wembley then you really must #HonkFromHome and what better way to do it than with #MyKidsDressedMe ;-) You'll have fun and so will your children. Plus the most important thing is that you and your friends send THE text. Your pics hashtagged with #MyKidsDressedMe may even end up on the live BBC show!!!!
Hey, they EVEN have a POSTER (which Jo designed), which couldn't be clearer. Now you know what to do:

So next #NewsMumOnline blogger story. These ladies say that they don't honk, but you can make up your own mind. See who you recognise from this Daily Fail story: Can you guess which of these women only shower once a week? I personally spy at least two well known bloggers amongst them.

Favourite *honk* quotes from the article:

I pass one of my son’s wet flannels under each armpit before giving my arms, hands, face and intimate area a cursory once over. Then I’m ready for the school run.
Tempered by:
It may sound grim, but I can assure you I don’t smell, as my husband — who has a shower every other morning — will attest.
Next honker:
But after I’ve put them to bed, I rarely bath or shower myself, despite being covered in as much mashed banana and yogurt as they are.
Tempered by:
Deodorant and dry shampoo are my saviours and my straight, dark brown hair looks the same whether I wash it or not. No one has ever said I smell, but then I work from home, so there is no one to offend. My children certainly don’t complain.
The commenters were ruthless but amongst the kinder ones was this one:
brian r, great bookham, 2 days ago
a dermatologist will tell you NOT to shower or bath every day as it depletes the covering of natural oils that help defend the skin from the weather
So perhaps these ladies can also #HonkFromHome or perhaps they already are ;-) *jokes*.

Third up and finally, how clean is YOUR house. Mine is quite nice thank you very much, but then that wasn't always the case. At one point I stopped hoovering and stopped tidying because for a couple of years, as a toddler, Aaron was JUST LIKE THIS.
If only I had the good sense and foresight to video Aaron being like that, except I was too frazzled and frustrated by it. It meant I couldn't have people over and often meant I escaped the house to stop having to look at it. 5 million people have watched the above You Tube video, but FIFTY million have watched it on Facebook, according to the Dail Fail (yes this blog post is three times over Daily Fail focused, #SorryNotSorry). The Daily Mail article is here: Why Mums Really Never Get Anything Done. I hate though that they don't use the You Tube video! (1) it meant it took me AGES to find it and (2) it means people don't click through and increase her views, which seems mean of the Mail considering they are benefiting in page views from HER story so surely they should reciprocate. Or tell me, am I wrong? Can YOU navigate to her or her video from that article? I couldn't! Nor to her Facebook page.............

Anyway, this bringeths the end of this #NewsMumOnline article. If you have enjoyed it, you can thank me by sponsoring me. After all I too will HONK after dancing for 6 hours in the #TeamHonkDanceathon in Wembley on Sunday 8th March.

Dance With Me. Sponsor Me. Dare Me. Train With Me. #TeamHonkDanceathon

I've been a big fan of Red Nose Day and Sport Relief - both of which come from Comic Relief - for as long as I can remember, so when I saw that Team Honk are doing a Danceathon, in the same venue, same day, with THE DANCEATHON it was a no brainer.
Take part in the first ever Comic Relief Danceathon on Sunday 8th March hosted by Claudia Winkleman at The SSE Arena, Wembley
I absolutely adore dancing, and there are certain beats that will get me dancing no matter where I am - Bhangra being one of them. Even carrying my baby doesn't stop me dancing, although that and being filmed did make me slightly award as you can see:

I often liken myself to the Fat Bottomed Girls of Queen's Song: Fat Bottomed Girls You Make the Rocking World Go Round. You would totally understand if you could see footage of me at a Salsa dancing class in Malta 2008, but sadly I can't find the MP4 to upload it here. You're saved from watching and I am saved the embarrassment ha!

But back to me and Comic Relief. I've always watched the show, on BBC1, but 2007 I took it further and did a last minute effort for Red Nose Day at work. Just that little initiative executed in 48 hours raised a few hundred pounds and shows the difference that each and every one of us can make! Actually I have just dug out the pic and it was over a thousand pounds, ooooh!

Fast forward to 2008 and I was on fire about the possibilities so I liaised with Comic Relief with a view to my employer being an official partner of Sport Relief 2008. It worked, and involved a year and a half of hard work, but we raised over 40 thousand pounds. We did so many initiatives. We did an on pack promotion, where 20 pounds from the sale of each product went to Comic Relief. We provided the prize for each and every member of the public who raised 500 pounds or more in sponsorship. My ex-colleague organised and hosted an actual Sport Relief Mile, and has continued to do so every two years since actually. As our Head Office was in London, a load of us did the London Sport Relief Mile and raised a fortune on each of our fundraising pages, as ultimately that is what it is all about! A stockist organised a walk. There were lots of initiatives, some of which I have probably forgotten. A highlight was that in addition to being AT the live BBC Show, a A few of us were also able to attend Sport Relief does The Apprentice, where I met Sir Alan Sugar, David Walliams, Kelly Holmes, Simon Cowell and Kelvin MacKenzie. We'd provided product for the "Apprentice's Shops" and Kelly Holmes shifted loads of our product in a bid to make her team win (it wasn't televised though). She was truly amazing and a bundle of energy. My findings were that Simon Cowell was short, Sir Alan likes to be called Sir so got cross and blanked me when I said "Hello Alan" (I know I am DUMB and nerves got the better of me) and when I tried to chat to David Walliams he looked at me suspiciously and said "are you a journalist?" LOL! No, not me! Oh and Kelvin MacKenzie was a diamond geezer and wrote out a large cheque.

In 2010, we were no longer involved but me and the Marketing Manager were really really nostalgic about it so at the VERY last minute we bought a ticket for the London Sport Relief Mile and went along, just the two of us. Our colleagues were really generous and we raised stupid amounts of money on our fundraising pages. In the days after I was Googling it and read what the Guardian had to say and was thrilled via that, to find this freelance photographer's photos uploaded to YouTube in a slideshow (below). The photos he took were very touching as I was 6 months pregnant, yet did the 3 mile option (starting off jogging and then walking). So yes, Aaron did 3 miles for Sport Relief in my tummy. The pics x 2 are at 1:16 and 1:36. I meant to contact the photographer and buy them, but as I was a workaholic back then I never ever got round to it:

Funnily enough, YEARS later, when I went to see the Press show of The Gruffalo Live, that very same photographer was there photographing the celebrities who attended the theatre. He gave me his card, but do you think I know where it is?!?!?!? Fail!

Anyway, I am finding this whole #TeamHonkDanceAthon thing infectious and am playing Saturday Night by Whigfield and lots of other upbeat songs constantly. The other evening I danced in my kitchen for TWO HOURS. I've gone a bit bonkers with it all truth be told. But it's making me move more and that has to be a good thing. Aaron's done some of the dancing with me, and last night was singing along to Whigfield "Salad Tonight Salad Tonight" which made me laugh till I cried. So appropriate as this is COMIC Relief after all LOL.

I will upload footage of me or Aaron or both dancing in our kitchen if YOU sponsor me. Pretty please? My fundraising page is dormant currently, as I've been a bit SHY thus far about sharing it. My big fat zero on my sponsorship page is all about to change as the lovely people at BetFair are sponsoring me, to get me off to a flying start. That will give my dancing shoes wings for sure! Now, Comic Relief asks that dancing participants raise 150 pounds in sponsorship (we do get to go to Wembley and meet celebs after all), so with BetFair enabling me to reach that total straight away I COULD rest on my laurels and focus on my dancing training, but no, I have set my target to 300, as I would like to raise the required 150 personally as well, but without a whole office of colleagues, as a lonely SAHM I have no idea how to do this unless YOU dear reader help me.

I am also working on a Red Nose Day 2015 initiative with school as I am on the PTA (actually I better finish this post as we have a meeting at 13:30 today), but a couple of them were reluctant about Comic Relief as they wrongly have the impression that "all the money goes to Africa" (concerned when at these times of austerity there are so many here in need at home). I put them straight because:

Comic Relief works on Domestic Violence - they've "helped to establish the National Domestic Violence Helpline, which has received over 1.5 million calls since it was set up in 2003".
and:
But, being that Aaron is half African, I am delighted that we help overseas and at home. Charity does indeed begin at home, but it is heart warming to help people in need wherever they may be. Always thinking "there but for the grace of God go I".

I adore the #MyKidsDressedMe initiative that Pippa Story of Mum has come up with. For anyone who can't get to Wembley to do the danceathon the thing to do is #HonkFromHome and the being dressed by your kids thing is certainly a way to honk from home. You get to bring Comic Relief and Red Nose Day to the school gates by having to explain why you are dressed that way, and you can ask your school gates gang to text "Funny" to 70011 to donate a POUND.

So, I think now, I will go and find the Halloween Dress that Aaron wanted me to wear to school on Monday morning, and I might just wear it to my PTA meeting and get my lovely "fellow parent" ladies to send that text!!!!
Please sponsor me OR get involved in Comic Relief your own way. Like I said earlier, if you can't make Wembley for the #TeamHonkDanceAthon you CAN #HonkFromHome or you can just do lots of social sharing, to help raise awareness of this year's Red Nose Day.

I'll show you my dance moves if you sponsor me ;-)

At first, I wasn't going to sign up for the DanceAthon as I wrongly assumed it was full. It's NOT, sign up TODAY. I am looking at all of you, and staring at Mama and More's Zaz. Very happy that Tinuke has signed up, from Circus Mums.

If you want to keep up to date with all the news, follow @Team_Honk on Twitter.

Bye for now, Liska xxxx

All this training is changing my shape already. You want in? Sign up too and start dancing TODAY.

25 Years of Comic Relief - 25 things you can do with your Nose!

So I have erm been a little bit silly and recorded onto You Tube  25 things that you can do with your hooter, your NOSE, for Red Nose Day.  25 things, because Comic Relief, this year, celebrate 25 years. <<< (The link has been removed as I subsequently removed the video as it kind of didn't really go anywhere...)

It is very spontaneous, very last minute, very unrehearsed, and hopefully you will laugh at me, or with me or both.

Aaron put my red nose on his nose so many times he ended up ripping it in half, so I have the branded circular paper cellotaped to my nose DIY style.  Mums are adaptable right!

BUT I do have an official red nose day Comic Relief Claire's Accessories wig on.

Anyway, if you like my video or it makes you laugh, use that funny money and donate to my Comic Relief
RED NOSE DAY GIVING PAGE.

Would be great if 25 people could give me a £1 each to raise 25 pounds for 25 years of Comic Relief.

THAT is all I am asking for.

And if you add Gift Aid to it, we could raise even more.

And if anyone guesses all 25 noses, I will give you a prize, or even to the person who comes closest, but ONLY if I raise the £25.

I am hoping to add to the #goodwork that #TeamHonk has been doing representing the Parent Blogging community in style, even climbing Mount Snowdon.

I had meant to do a polished, edited video, with effects etc.... BUT the last two weeks I have had flu, and tonight was my first opportunity to do it.

I KNOW, VERY last minute.

But I didn't want to let the day or the night go unmarked by me or this blog.

Happy 25 years Comic Relief and I wish you 25 years more :-)

Liska xx
