What did you make sure you did before you had a baby?

Newborn Aaron

We seriously discussed having a baby when I was 30 years of age. At the time I had quite a lot of debt and I said let’s spend 5 years clearing our debt and have a baby at 35.

It got to 2007, and I said let’s wait till the end of the year - would have still been in time for the 35 deadline (my sister in law kept saying my fertility would decline after that!).

Unfortunately in 2007 my precious Father In Law passed away, and we went with his body to Nigeria for the burial. The malaria tablets said not to get pregnant within 3 months of taking them, and that was a good excuse to put it off yet again.

I think I cleared my debts back in 2008, yet we still didn’t start trying till 2009. I had such a block about it due to real serious Tokophobia.

Anyway, it really was the right thing to do to clear my debt, before getting pregnant, as I only got full pay for 8 weeks plus holiday pay and then I was right down to Statutory Maternity Pay (which is not a lot).

What did you make sure you did before you had a baby?

Anyway now I am quite debt averse and nothing goes on a credit card, apart from my Amazon purchases.

But we *may* move house this year and if we do, I can see we that due to moving costs or home improvements I may end up getting a loan.

I will think long and hard about it, but definitely staying away from the credit cards.

What’s your view of debt?

Scan - had the scan! Yiiippppeee

Had scan Thursday.  Head is on left, with little hand up to face.  Probably protecting itself from the Ultrasound waves, poor bean.  S/he is 2 inches from head to rump.

Was very very exciting to see her wriggling around and get confirmation that she is there.

Husband was blown away, especially when she moved, and when the Sonographer pointed out the heartbeat.

Was very exciting.

They press very very hard though, which is difficult given that you have a full bladder.  Drinking 750 ml of water 1 hour before as a requirement for the scan.  But you can see that until they press deep, nothing is on the screen.

Oh great thing is, they confirmed my dates as right, so on Thursday I was 11 weeks and 3 days.

Bye for now, Liska xxx

Still feeling pregnant despite 3 negative HPT

Hi

Not doing another HPT today. My gut instinct is that I will not get a BFP until Wednesday morning, BUT I have such a funny feeling in my abdomen today and when I lay on my tummy to go to sleep last night, it did not feel right. Now that I mention gut instinct, I was reading in my pregnancy bible that when one is pregnant one gets constipated. I took that as a negative sign, as I have the opposite. BUT I just read this, which reassures me.

As I am 36 I am now worrying that maybe I have missed my period due to early menopause. Please let that not be the case. It has taken me years to feel ready, and now that I am, please don't take the opportunity away from me. I will have so so so many regrets otherwise.

Crossing all my fingers and toes for a positive result on Wednesday. I will be so so so excited, and then I really will be a New Mum Online.

Bye the way, I consider myself a Mum if I am pregnant. I have never understood people, who a few weeks before giving birth say, I can't believe, in a few weeks I am going to be a Mum. Aren't you a Mum while it is growing inside you, sharing your blood, your food, your emotions. As far as I am concerned that is the beginning of Motherhood, and you can have so much influence on the blueprint of the child, while it is right there, hearing the voice of Mum and Dad, feeling the benefit of any meditation you do, etc...

I am so excited so I am praying for a positive result. I was sad that I have been trying since April, but I think it is meant to be as it means I will be so much more patient with any morning sickness etc... because I will embrace it all, saying I have wanted this for so long. I know to some, April is maybe not that long ago, but I have felt everyday and every month.

I am now 4 days overdue for my TOM.

Bye for now.
