Straight to Toilet Training - No Potty - Day 02 - It's all in the mind

So yesterday, we made a conscious decision to stay at home.  It was snowing and COLD, and the heating was on, so I thought RIGHT, perfect time to commence toilet training with us being indoors for the duration.

I made sure I had THREE pairs of trackies (that are slightly too small) that I did not mind getting wet.  I thought they would get wet via "on the way to the loo" accidents, but no, my son is too old and too clever for that.

If he wanted to go to the loo, he would hold it, till he gets there as he has done in the past when we have experimented flirted with the toilet!

But yesterday he was in Thomas the Tank Engine pants (not training pants - I wanted him to feel the wetness to incentivise him to use the loo).  On the 1st wet through, we got through the following items * pants * socks * vest and * trackies.

So I then dispensed with the socks and vest - heating was on - so the second time we had just trackies to get wet, and the THIRD - gggggrrrrrr!

No bladder control.
No attempt to go to the loo.
No call to Mummy to say needed the loo.

He was proving a point - he doesn't like "panties" as he calls them, and likes his "nappies".

What got me was the 3rd wet was ALSO a number two! Have you ever tried to pull pants down when they contain a huge number two. Aint easy, especially when you're used to nappies.

This was what he looked like when he was wet and ***** for the THIRD time:

The reason he doesn't like panties is because we were sent some training (quilted) pants to review a few months back and they were so tight on the legs that they made him cry, and as a result if you even try to put even ordinary cotton pants on him (not quilted, not training) he screams "they'll hurt me".  It's certainly put us back a couple of months.

But now he is getting used to the Thomas ones. And trusting that they don't hurt him.  I wish I'd never tried those training pants now :-(

Anyway last night I gave up and have had him in nappies all day today - Sunday day 02.

But tonight he has surprised me.

We went for a walk tonight so that he could see the snow and more importantly walk in it, after being indoors all day yesterday and today, and surprise surprise when he got in tonight he had a bottle on my knee and once it had gone through to his bladder he said "Mummy I need to do a poo".

He had enough bladder control (it was a wee not a poo) to wait for me to:

undo the button of his jeans
AND the poppers on his vest
AND take off the nappy
AND put the mickey mouse seat on the toilet
AND position him before he started to do a wee (to which I of course said I thought you said it was a poo!).....

Anyway about 15 minutes later same deal

And 10 minutes after that same deal.

So between 20:50 and 21:30 he'd weed three times.  No wonder his nappies are always so full.

God forbid if we were out and I had to find a loo that many times but like I said he had just had a full 12 oz bottle.

What impresses me is that all three times he told me.
All three times he waited for me to undress his bottom half and set the seat up.
And all three times nothing came out until he was positioned.

SO I think yesterday his mind wasn't on it.

Today, there is a link between his brain and the action.

He's got it.

So I think toilet training is as much a mental as a physical process.

Bless him!

And at 10 p.m. I sent my last tweet to #pbloggers and tried to put him to bed again!
At about 22:15 he asked to do a wee again, and again he did.
Nappy was dry so went back on for the night.

So that is FOUR wees he has done in the big toilet this evening.
All without any effort from me.  He doesn't even have "panties" on today.
He just GETS it from yesterday.

And has decided to go with it.

Things percolate in their little minds.  It's amazing.

So I think we will stay indoors again tomorrow and make hay while the sun shines.

Except
As
We
All
Know
It
Might
Be
March
But
There
Is
Snow
Not
Sun!

Teen at Two

Aaron often says and does things that give me an insight into what he might be like as a teenager.

Normally when he watches TV he is either on my knee or playing with his toys with the TV merely providing background music.  We have a large DVD collection because he got bored with C Beebies but ironically, as things in life go full circle, we are now back to watching C Beebies as he is bored with the DVDs.

I can't remember what he was watching the other day when I caught him looking like THIS (I wish I could remember - I know it captivated him as it was something he'd not seen before):

I know pic looks muted as if I have used effects, but no, I genuinely haven't.  It's just because I used no flash, that's how it came out, all warm and cosy looking :-)

We've had a Jungle Junction pig for a year or two - I think it dates back to Christmas in July 2011 or Cybermummy 2011 (a goodie bag freebie).  Anyway we have NEVER watched the show, so imagine Aaron's excitement when we turned over - channel hopping - to a Disney channel the other day.

Aaron was captivated holding his piggy in his hand while he also watched him on TV.  It was so cute to watch his surprise and pleasure....

Shaman, Psychic or Ordinary 2 Year Old Boy?

I have a special little boy and I am starting to think he may be psychic - don't get me wrong I think we are ALL born with that ability but then it is hammered and conditioned out of us.

A few months ago he woke up crying having had a nightmare about his Dad and a car.  A couple of days later his Dad was in a bad crash on the M25 - it was the Jubilee weekend.

This week on Monday he said Mummy go to work when he was talking about the next day.  I haven't worked since July and he had no way of knowing I was going to be working on Tuesday.

This morning when we were leaving to WALK to nursery, he had no way of knowing that his Dad would be leaving soon, by car, yet when we went to leave, he said "Daddy I don't want to walk!"

He looked Daddy square in the eyes and Daddy had no alternative but to get ready for work quick sharp and drop us to nursery (I walked home as usual).

So one by one, I am starting to see that Aaron can see the immediate future even if it is an hour or a day, or two away.  I know that time isn't as linear as "we" earthly beings perceive it, but watching this all unfold is interesting nonetheless.

Also he now is surrounded by "animals" that I have to dismiss each night.  Tonight being the 4th night in a row.

Tonight it was a spider, followed by a bear, followed by a snake, followed by a rhino.  The second I have told them one by one, nicely, to go home, so that Aaron can go to sleep, he does.

The only point of reference I have for this, is Shamanism, if that's a word.

So I am busy reading things like this at the moment, about Shamanic power animals and how they surround our children like Guardian Angels.

I actually think it is beautiful, and I am glad he can "see" them.

I am delighted that at the ripe old age of 29 months Aaron hasn't had this conditioned out of him - yet.  I want him to be in touch with as much as he can be, before he has to conform to the norm, if at all.

Sorry if this is too deep for you dear reader, but I am very open-minded and accepting of these things.

Lots of love and bye for now,
Liska x

My Boy's First Hair Cut - 2 years' old!

I think the photos say it all really - as Aaron is mixed race I took him to a black barbers who combed out his hair so as to do it with the electric trimmers (if wet it could be done with a scissors) which kept his afro intact despite it now being WAY smaller:

I'll have to take an "after" photo at some point.
I am missing his 'fro already but as you can see above it was dry and sun-bleached.  Looks healthy now.

I hope I haven't weakened him by cutting his hair :-(
Having mixed feelings about it as I really miss his 'fro which was part of his growing personality...
