Ordinary Moments - growth as time speeds right by

It's ordinary that children grow
They do it all the time,

From "there" to "here" they go
The wall chart I see him climb!

One minute it's a scooter
Next it's a balance bike!

Then back to the scooter
But it's a grown up one to like!

The days of Chugginton are over
It's Skylander all the way

I see my toddler is long gone
A grown up boy in his place today

So growth I guess is normal
As time passes slowly by

If only it was slow for real
I take photos to capture it, I try!

I wish I could hit a pause button
A way of staying right "here"

To linger in a moment, me your Mother
And you my darling son dear!

P.S. We were originally given the Chuggington Scooter by Jenny at Treading on Lego. The new Skylander one, I actually bought him for Xmas 2012, but as it is only a 2 wheeler he was too wobbly on it. It resided in the cupboard till now, as last Summer he moved onto his balance bike, but now that his best friend has a scooter he wants one again but soon realised his is now too babyish, so he had a moan until Mummy magicked a scooter out of the cupboard "just like that!" - you should have seen his little delighted face, especially as his friend was waiting for him outside.

The Ordinary Moments - travelling on a bus with a 3 year old boy

With kids what is ordinary one week is extraordinary the next, or actually I should reverse that, it's the other way around.

I don't drive so we can often be found walking (miles and miles) - well Aaron's always on the balance bike.  When we're not walking we're on London's finest (public transport), often buses.

This is how ordinary has gone on buses chronologically

1. In his buggy, either asleep or with me going to great lengths to give him drinks, food or entertainment so that he didn't disturb the other passengers.
2. On my knee in a Moby Wrap usually looking out the window or talking to other passengers.
3. Sitting next to me, but moving from seat to seat to seat, if the bus is empty enough to do so.
4. Running around the bus, in between being made to sit down.
5. Sitting in one place, but needing ryhmes, songs and stories to entertain.
6. Sitting in one place, but wanting to watch my phone, or talk to other children on the bus.
7. THE NEW *CURRENT* ordinary - finding unusual places to sit on the bus.  This is so ordinary he does it all the time #sigh

As you can see if you look closely, his bike and my jacket are there, so as to foil him, by filling the space, in the hope that he'd sit next to me, in the seats that face that luggage/shopping area.  Yes, he began there, but it was a matter of minutes and a couple of bus stops before the boots were off (Aaron's version of "the gloves are off") and in he hops.  Luckily these seats are at the front, so I did not see the disdainful looks of our fellow passengers.  Thank God, as in these situations it is the reactions, that are worse than the behaviour itself.  No doubt, there are some reactions like that from some of you dear readers, but I can't see you ha!

{The Ordinary Moments}

It's week 11 of Mummy Daddy Me's fabulous Ordinary Moments weekly linky.

This week our ordinary moment is definitely Aaron falling asleep on the sofa after watching Scooby-Doo Adventures The Mystery Map (a DVD we were sent to review).

This was how he looked while he was watching the DVD before he fell asleep LOL:

An ordinary day at home.  Well not quite, as normally he takes his shoes off as soon as he gets in the door but he was too excited to watch his new DVD.

I am so glad that Katie set up this linky, as I never used to value ordinary photos like this, but I now know it is these (more than the flash ones) that I will treasure in years to come as they give me an insight into my extra-ordinary little man :-)

{The Ordinary Moments} Versus a Cheesey Smile

One of my FAVOURITE linkies is the one Mummy Daddy Me runs, called the #OrdinaryMoments.

Like with my own linky I have been adrift at keeping up to date due to our trip to Ireland followed by my flu.

Anyhow here I am today playing catch up!

One of the reasons none of my photos are ordinary is because I say SMILE just before I take them, and I am not happy till he does.

Anyhow, I thought I would demonstrate, with a few Ordinary Moments that I accidentally captured recently, BEFORE I said smile.

I think they show real life a bit more true to life, minus the cheese! :-)

I think when I am in my rocking chair, certainly with the second pair of photos, it is the photo on the LEFT that I will want to look back on as it better represents my boy's personality.

So I think I will hit SNAP instead of saying SMILE a little more often #LessonLearnt.

A Little Boy that Knows How to Relax

I am joining in with The Ordinary Moments Week 2, as I am going to try and participate every week.

We've had a lot of awesome days out in the past week so it was hard to isolate an ordinary moment but this one won hands down.

As this linky is a Sunday thang, I am choosing a photo from last Monday, as technically it does fall into THAT week.

Here is my Aaron just "laxing":

He picks up ALL my habits.  Don't get me wrong he doesn't drink coffee, and he's not addicted to Eastenders and Coronation Street, BUT he does lie in like me, which is unusual for a child AND he has recently adopted my need to relax.

He was in a "park" (grass by the road) recently (last Monday) and was doing stunts on his bike on a "valley" bit and then all of a sudden the bike got flung down and he did the above.

We then went to Lidl and I was gutted I had not caught it on camera but ta da, he did it again on the way back, and as a result you get to see the above.

My chilled, charming, ordinary little man, enjoying what ought to be an ordinary moment.  Safety, security, your Mum by your side and the sun on your face.

The Ordinary Moments - a special photo of my boy

There is a new linky in town.  Mummy Daddy Me has started The Ordinary Moments

This is her post for this week, where you link up if you want to participate.

This is week 1 of the linky and I am going to TRY and join in every week, as there are linkies I LOVE and ADORE and yet I am always so fickle, so VERY inconsistent.  Let's try and make this one I do every week.

It didn't take me long to decide which photo to include.

It is this one from yesterday:

We have just got on the train, it's yesterday and we are on the way to Lollibop, but out of 211 photos THIS one is the MOST ordinary.  Or is it?!?!?!?

I have picked it for so many reasons as follows:

• It is the first time I have seen for definite that my toddler is now a BOY!
• Look at the light Vs dark.  The sun streaming in and highlighting his foot.
• Look at the position of his left mellow hand.  I taught yoga for 38 of the weeks he was in the womb.  I think it has stayed with him.  He has the ability to be meditative, despite usually being a full on loon, with too much energy!
• He's gone into a world of his own.  But I captured it.  It's special.  It shows the essence of my son.  My still, thoughtful, meditative son.  Comfortable and at ease, knowing he is safe with Mummy and Daddy, on a train he often travels on.  Comfortable that although we are going somewhere new, he trusts me that we'll have fun.
• Wearing a shirt that fit him last Summer too.
• It's the first day in weeks that it's been windy and cool, so he has a long sleeved shirt underneath.
• The sandals haven't been worn in a few days for the same reason.
• The plaster tells a tale of a scraped knee as he went downhill  on his new balance bike when we spent the day in Hampstead Heath last Saturday when he'd only had it about 5-6 days.  Silly Mummy for taking her eye off the ball and letting him.
• He's MUCH browner than he is in Winter but then we have FULLY enjoyed the heatwave and had our paddling pool out everyday that it was hot.
• His hair is oiled up with coconut oil and for the 1st time in ages is free of tangles.  Mummy trimmed the dead ends out too.
• He's looking handsome and showing some signs of the man he will one day become.
