#SaidItSaturday - Words are Getting Longer

My boy is now 3 years and 8 months, even though I still often refer to him as being "three and a half".  The home-straight to 4 years old is now in sight.  Don't mention his going to school! I will be bereft! Totally!

Anyhow, Said It Saturday has been neglected of late. I was in bed tossing and turning just now and decided to get back up and turn the computer on.

I haven't been up to my old trick of making a note of every remarkable thing Aaron says on my phone.  Life is too hectic, too fast and furious to have chance to stop and type as a memo each time he says something note-worthy (which is now every 5 minutes).

So instead, I will have to rely on my memory...... yikes no pressure considering it has not worked since I gave birth!

What I want to say is that the words are getting longer.  He can often be found saying:
  • similar
  • disgusting
  • actually
  • today he said "pavement"!
  • definitely
  • certainly

Today we played "snap" for the first time and I taught him how to say that Mummy was "shuffling" the cards.  It was hilarious what he was saying before I emphasized each syllable and he "got it"!

He's now at an age where he expects his instructions to be obeyed.  So if he tells his best friend something, he gets VERY frustrated when he does not follow his commands.  His BFF is 5 months younger than him, so that DOES happen, and cue a big reaction from Aaron.  "He's not listening to me" (oh Aaron if only you could realise that is how I feel when you don't listen to ME!!!!). Today he wanted him to eat because he was eating, paint the giraffe (I bought them two wooden ones to paint from a new shop called Tiger) and climb up the Spiderman net (and NOT the ladder) at the park.  He can be VERY bossy and likes to be "heard"!

For some reason, in recent weeks, he always tells me what's on his mind.  The sentences start with

"I'm thinking about..."

I don't know if it is an Aaron-ism or something that's been encouraged at school.

At any given random time, when you hear the words "I'm thinking about..." you know you have to stop what you are doing and listen, really listen.  It'll always be something DEEP, and nearly always be something from the distant past (that you would have thought he'd have forgotten about).  Thanks to the fact he was an early speaker and has a great vocabulary he can really tell me what's on his mind. It is the biggest lesson for any parent who excuses bad behaviour by saying "uch, s/he'll forget about it". Nope, they don't.  I guess they're just sometimes too young (or trying to grasp more than 1 language) to be able to express themselves.

Aaron's "thinking about" the sheep that he saw nearly 6 months ago, in Ireland, who had a red raw bum (I think it was eaten alive with maggots or something like that).  He remembers shutting his fingers in a door which I think was a year ago. He remembers trips to the zoo and Thomas Land in terrific technicolour detail!

He dreams what feels like every night at the moment, and really enjoys telling me, in great detail, about his dreams in the morning. He'll put emphasis on certain words, in a hilarious way.  You'd have to BE there, but if you are the Mum to a toddler you will know what I mean.

Oh and his favourite words at the moment (despite the awesome/extensive vocabulary) are:

Pee pee
poo poo
bum bum.

THIS I know is a phase that they go through at this age, and he is loving it loving it loving it.  At the moment, when he is at his most happy and most loving he says "Mummy poo poo" or "Daddy poo poo".  I asked him to say goodbye to someone a teacher at nursery the other day and he said "bye-bye [name]-poo poo".  She looked HORRIFIED, so I explained that's what he calls Mummy and Daddy (I didn't get chance to say in a good way) but I was trying to say that Aaron was putting her on the same pedestal he has us on, it was a compliment. But she clearly didn't get it as she said "that's terribly unkind Aaron".  I left the building with a heavy heart. We're not going to stop him saying it, as I feel vibes and when he is saying it, there is only joy, sheer fun and joy exuding from his every pore.  It's a phase and it is a FUN phase. Shucks there are MUCH worse things he could be saying! Reader, what do you think?

Anyway, I am feeling tired now, so I may end this here and say "over and out" "night night"

Edit: notice how I felt "tired" the minute I wrote about something that had a negative effect on me (above). This is why being encouraging and positive is so important (that is a note to MYSELF as much as anyone else by the way) as look at the PHYSICAL effect it has on oneself.

Yet, after publishing this post, I saw a tweet from +Nickie O'Hara and ended up watching an 11 minute video as a result and engaging in lots of tweets about it.  The tiredness was a response to the heavy energy generated by writing the above (and remembering the feelings it generated in me). Anyway, lesson learned. I seem to need to learn the same lessons again and again and again at the moment but I WILL get there. Sad that it's taken me till +40 though.............!

Said it Saturday is back with a bang #SaidItSaturday

I haven't written or published a Said It Saturday #SaidItSaturday post in WEEKS - literally haven't posted one in 2014 at all yet.

But now I am back with a bang whether you rowdy lot join in or not.

Soooooo.....

I'll start with my favourite.  Last weekend we were one of 10 lucky Parent Bloggers to spend the weekend with Costa Coffee's Perry The Penguin!

We did LOTS of things with Perry, including taking him swimming and to Kung Fu.  Aaron went along with the fact that Perry had to have his photo taken at every opportunity and enjoyed posing with him and entertaining him on the bus, including showing him how to draw on the steamy windows, BUT on our way out of Morrisons Aaron loves to go on the cars you put a pound in, and when I tried to get Perry to sit on the car (you'll see in the photo it is NOT EVEN on the actual seat) Aaron got so frustrated, his imagination for Penguin-fun left him and he shouted at me:
"He's just a biscuit!"
Here's the pic:

Out of loyalty to Costa I did not laugh, but it WAS very funny, it has to be said!  Especially the way he shouted it, in pure frustration - I now know the issues we'd have if he ever has a sibling!

this Thursday I was TRYING to get a load of housework and de-cluttering done.  Aaron was following me, every single time I moved from room to room.  It got a little frustrating so I asked him why.  His answer:
"I just love you"
Now THAT stopped me in my busy housewife tracks and I had to give him a big squeeze.  My little heart-breaker.

The same day he'd had a massive lunch at nursery and was full but we were both nibbly at about 4 o'clock so we had a small cheese & tomato pizza each.  I knew having had that and a big cooked lunch, he wouldn't be up for a big cooked dinner, so later before bed I made him a ham sandwich.  As I handed it to him I said "you better eat it!" - his reply (casually over his shoulder as he walked to the dining table carrying his own plate, given to him in the kitchen):
"I will my sweet Mummy!"
WHERE did I get this prince charming from? My beautiful boy.

Oh and another classic.  The other day, after collecting him from nursery he saw one of his teachers in an alley on a phone.  He stopped, letting me go ahead, to say to her:
"You shouldn't be on your phone. Water and 'lectrick-tity don't mix" [it was raining]
I have taught him that ANYTHING that has batteries, or gets plugged in, or gets charged, is electrical, and should NOT ever be allowed to get wet.  He's taking it really seriously bless him.  My little policeman.

Actually that reminds me of another one, which might even have been the same day.  On the way back from nursery, a van reversed where Aaron was trying to cycle.  I held him back and made him wait, but as he went passed them he saw their window was down and there was someone on the passenger side that we were on, so he said:
"Why did you go there, I was trying to cycle there?".  Followed by: "Why are you eating THERE, you should have eaten your food in the cafe?"
Luckily they were REALLY nice guys, and laughed their heads off, and thought he was adorable, which actually has jogged my memory about another thing, also this week... I was at the cashpoint the other day and the man in front of me was taking FOREVER.  I didn't sigh, or tut or anything, but Aaron got impatient and tapped him on the arm and said:
"Why can't you let it be our turn?"
Luckily, again it was a really nice guy who found it to be very cute!

Speaking of cashpoint has reminded me of yet another one. Wow this isn't like the old days where I could only do #SaidItSaturday if I had made a note of "memorable" things Aaron had said during the week, on my phone.  I used to find that, even though they would SEEM memorable when said, unless I typed them in the memo section of my phone, come time to write Said It Saturday, they'd be long forgotten.  Maybe the Chinese Herbs are having LOTS of positive effects on me, as I have rattled off all of the above and not gone near my phone yet.  However I will do in a moment, as there are some from Xmas I would like to include here, as it's been so long since I have done Said it Saturday.

Anyway, where was I?  Yeah cashpoint.  The other day Aaron wanted a toy from a local newsagent; one he remembered from a day when we'd gone in there with my cousin.  We walked passed the shop and I said we can't go there yet, as I have to go to the cashpoint first to get money.  He turned round and assertively said to me:
"You're not getting money, you are getting cash!  Cash is paper, it's not money". [He thinks money is coins bless him]

... and I remember thinking exactly the same when I was his age. My aunt used to get me to give her notes and she'd give me coins in exchange, making me feel rich.  She used to get a great kick out of playing that trick on me.  Don't worry she did not rip me off, she spoilt me rotten.  She got me my ZX Spectrum +

So, let me go get that phone!

I'll just do one for now.  On 29/12/2013 he said:

"Mummy you buyed me?"
"I was waiting at the shop for you to buy me when I was a baby?

I said: "No you were in my tummy!"

His reply: "So I buyed you then! You were in my trolley!"

Bless him, there was NO build up to this conversation... It was bedtime and it just came COMPLETELY out of the blue!

PLEASE join in the fun.  They don't have to have said their bits and pieces on a Saturday - that is just the day the linky opens.  Also, the focus of the post doesn't have to entirely be this, just as long as it includes something they SAID, whatever their age!

Bye for now, Liska xxx

Said It Saturday - An Audience with Aaron

It's gonna be a relatively brief one this week, because (a) I need to get to bed and (b) I didn't make a note of everything Aaron said this week BUT we did have fun!

Tonight, Aaron went ice skating for the first time, with a penguin aid.  I errrm couldn't skate as well as I used to be able to and said to someone "I've lost my bottle".  Aaron - who listens to EVERYTHING said "no you haven't, you don't have a bottle!" as literal as ever!  He still has milk, which he calls a bottle, and clearly knows that I don't! Bless him!

Anyway, rewind:

earlier on this week I needed to go to the Aldi launch of their ski wear collection, and my lovely SIL had agreed to have Aaron.  On the way to drop him off he said "I am going to be shy at J's house!" - shy is a word he has recently learned - I'd say from school (nursery) and he has started applying it to himself, which is like calling an orange an apple.  He said last week on Wednesday that he would be "shy" at show and tell and he SO wasn't! But clearly someone else IS and he's decided he wants to be too! Bless him but he ISN'T!!!

The other day we were going to see The Gruffalo in Westfield Stratford City and he said "I believe you need to get out of the shower, we need to go somewhere".  He is so formal and so funny sometimes!

Whenever we make breakfast we have a routine as to what he carries through and what I do.  The other morning he forgot himself and was watching TV.  When he saw me come in with everything he said "Mummy you are carrying too much, sorry" - I was so proud of my little man, his thoughtfulness and his manners.

Oh and back to his time with the SIL. She said his manners were great but that everytime he meant to say "no thank you" he in fact said "no please".  I know he does that, but I don't correct him as it is terribly cute :-)

He's said quite a lot else that's been funny this week, but alas I have not made a note of them.

Fred has said a lot of great stuff though!

Night night.

Said It Saturday - An Audience with Aaron

I know the weeks are flying when #SaidItSaturday keeps coming around too fast.

It's become a weekly ritual that it gives me a late night on a Friday night, and now being a parent ensconced in my pipe and slippers routine who currently owns neither, I am doing it sober too!

#violins.

So without further ado...

THIS #SaidItSaturday ...
actually begins last Saturday as I actually stated making note of things he said last Saturday morning. We were on the way to the Gruffalo Live when he said "those girls are laughing at me and making me stressed like you".

This made me sad for two reasons (1) because I am always saying I am stressed and Aaron's picked up on it and (2) why does he think people are laughing at him? It is not something me or Dad have passed on to him, so I think it is yet another nursery-ism.  There are so so many now I can no longer keep up...

After The Gruffalo Live, at which we had a wonderful picnic (buffet) Aaron said "I like the Gruffalo day.  It had lots of food and I am big enough" (bless!).

On Sunday...
"I am a good boy and Daddy's a naughty boy as he makes lots of silly noises".

On the way to #BritMumsXmasDo on Monday morning, I say "You're going to have lots of lovely ladies talking to you today".  His reply, as cool as mustard "yes I know!"... alrighty then!!!

Aaron's often not far away if I am on computer...
Looking at the [Morrisons] #BritMumsXmasDo photos on Tuesday morning : Aaron: "I hate that lady" I panic and assume she must have told him off when I was out of earshot, or he was incredibly naughty in front of her.  I ask, very worried "why what happened?" and he says "her OBOS are too big" I say "is only Mummy allowed to have big OBOS?" and he laughs for about 10 minutes.

Obos is what he has always called boobs! He thinks, due to 13 months of breastfeeding, that they belong to him.  The fact he calls them obos (pronounced like elbows but with an "o" instead of an "el") helps when we are in public!  Yep, there are some handy uses for his strange pronunciations, which on this occasion protect my modesty!

Funny...
Tuesday night, he's playing with a rod and leaning on it in a way that I think is going to hurt him and I say "Aaron you're going to hurt yourself and you won't be able to do a wee wee or have a baby!".

He says very assertively "I don't want a baby! [he laughs] "I have a baby bum bum!" [he laughs some more]!

He is going through that phase where every time the bum or poo word is mentioned it is the cue for lots of sniggering! on his part!

Wednesday morning, patting my OBOS like they are drums, I say "you think they're yours don't you?" His reply "no, they are obo cakes".   "I am going to make them into roasted fox" [we've seen the Gruffalo Live on stage recently].  Now if he was really doing The Gruffalo he ought to have rhymed cake with snake but ah well ;-)

Wed a.m. on way to school, struggling with his hood and I am other side of field. He WHIZZES towards me.... I say to him "why do you want your hood on anyway," to which he says "I am cold, silly" - yes of course you are! STUPID MUMMY :-)

On the way to school, he tells me, ever so concerned, he is "shy" about show and tell.  I say to him, "we are running late it will be finished when we get there".  He insists that it has just started, and that he will have to do it and that he is shy!  I 100% forget the fact that my boy has proved to me 1,000 times that he is psychic, and indeed, when we get there, show and tell has started 20 minutes late, but my brave boy joins the circle and I hope and pray he explained his item (a book clock that I was sent by Yellow Moon, that he absolutely loves).  Might phone them now! [I did, he stood up in front of everyone and thoroughly explained his clock book - Tell The Time].

Thursday on way back from school says "there's mice down there!" pointing at road.  I show him a drain and say "no, it's in the drains and sewers and it's rats!"  Aaron looks REALLY serious and says "there are rats down there eating a giraffe".  Then the story continues and he says "they're eating a baby giraffe and there will be a knock on the door as it is "wery wery wery not good!" He is going through a phase of saying very very very, except he pronounces it like Wery!!! VERY CUTE. Forgive the pun.

It's a blog hop, don't be shy join in:

#SaidItSaturday - An Audience With Aaron

This is a weekly linky for any bloggers to hook up a blog post that showcases anything their little one "said".  Doesn't have to be said on Saturday, but that is the name of the linky as it is the day it goes live.

Right then our turn...

We spent a long weekend in Bristol, and Aaron was very excited about it on Saturday and Sunday, before we left Sunday afternoon.

Only trouble was Sunday morning when we wanted to leave Daddy was still in bed so Aaron said:
"Daddy did you hear we going Bristol!?!?!? [and then to me] "We better wake him up or we going without him and we don't drive!"
The other day my bracelets cut my arm, so Aaron noticed and asked me why I was no longer wearing them.  I showed him the cut and rather than receive sympathy I got:
"You can wear them on the other arm!"
Obviously - why didn't I think of that!???! 3 year olds really are rather clever you know (and literal)!

Aaron watched me while I chose the hotel for Bristol and so he knew one of them was a skyscraper but didn't know which of the many options I had actually booked. At the point when he was calling it crystal instead of Bristol he said:
"In Crystal is the hotel up to the sky? That's scary!"
The other day for love nor money we could not get the Sky remote to turn over.  It was a temporary problem that hadn't happened before or since.  He later discovered a ketchup stain on the remote (yeah nice!) and said:
"The dirt on control is why I couldn't watch what's on!"
When we arrived at the hotel (Premier Inn) in Bristol upon seeing our room, with a double bed AND single bed, he instantly claimed the single, BUT ended up, Sunday night he did not sleep in there.  No surprise given that we always cosleep.  Anyhow it was obviously on his mind Monday for our 2nd night there as he said:
"I am going to sleep in my own bed and be happy and snuggly and get a treat and a present!"
Nobody at any point asked him to sleep there, neither on Sunday nor Monday so I don't know where he gets his ideas from - I think 3 year olds think, a lot!

While in Bristol he said "what's wrong Mummy?" to which I replied "I was upset that Daddy was taking too long to pay for the parking.  His reply:
"Mummy be happy.  You my favourite girl!"
He's actually told me this week that he loves me and that I am his best girl quite a few times - bless!

Oh just went back to my notes and quel surprise the next quote actually IS:
"Mummy I love you, you are my best girl!"
You know, when I collected him from nursery the other day, in a short walk he came out with 3 corkers.  I had no way of making a note of them as he rode on ahead on his balance bike and I could not risk taking my eyes off him to type them into the memo section on my phone.  At that point I wished I had a memory card in my phone as I would have gone into the voice recorder section and made a note of them that way, as I walked a long, whilst still being able to watch him.  I took the memory card out months ago (early Summer) to try and download 7k photos that were on there and as I didn't successfully manage to do it, it's still on the dining table - I really really need to sort that out!

I really look forward to reading YOUR posts! Link up here:

#SaidItSaturday - An Audience with Aaron

It's that time of the week again!

Normally when I say "I love you" to Aaron he says "I love you too" but he seems to be going through a phase where he quite likes to say "as well" instead.

The other day, well Saturday 9th November, I left him home with Daddy whilst I trotted off to Mumsnet Blogfest.  Their only task was to get Lidl Pull-Ups (it's what I always get, as they are £2.99 instead of the £6 you'll pay for Huggies) and Aaron still wears these (as a kind of nappy) to bed despite being fully toilet trained.

When I got home (yes he was still up) I said "what did you and Daddy buy when you went to get the nappies?"

His answer "a huge (he said huge 8 times) Spiderman".  They didn't even buy a Spiderman, but Aaron is going through that "story-telling" phase!

The other day I said to him "you're my best boy!" only to be replied to by him "yes in the world".

The other night he was watching Superman on TV sitting on Daddy's knee.  He exclaimed: "Superman's a boy who never gets dead!"  bless him!

This week I said to him "Aaron you're Mummy's boy" and he said "no I'm Daddy's boy" - seeing I was disappointed he stressed "Mummy, it's okay, we're all boys!" I knew what he meant bless him.

Tuesday, we took our usual short cut home from school and upon coming across some mud, he shouted to my back, as I walked ahead "I hate mud".   I turned round and said "okay shall I carry you?"  He was on his balance bike and wearing wellies, so he replied "No, I love mud.  Mud is my favourite".  Nothing like the contradictions of a 3 year old!

A couple of times this week Aaron has caught me and Daddy kissing and literally comes up to us and says "what's going on here then!" - very very funny and very cute!

We have a lot going on at the moment so I have been clearing and decluttering.  He came back to a tidy flat the other day and said "you've cleaned the place.  I like tidy!" - he didn't even say it to anyone in particular, but rather casually said it over his shoulder as he entered the sitting room!

The other day I had lost my house keys AND my phone charger.  He very assertively told me that they were in the kitchen.  Normally I feel like there are 2 adults and a child in the house (actually that is a lie, I often feel like a Mum of 2 boys) but when he was so wise to assist in that way, it really felt like there was suddenly 3 brains in the house.

The other day he and Daddy were out, and Daddy didn't want to come home just yet, so whilst they had me on the phone Daddy asked Aaron if he wanted to go to Grandma's.  All I could hear in the background was Aaron say "no!" but it was really said from the navel and he didn't feel the need to add a reason or whinge or cry.  He wanted to come home to his Mummy and he felt strong enough to just assertively say NO and nothing else.  I was on the other end of the phone miles away and yet I could hear the power in it.  I love the secure, confident, independent little man I have made.

Today Daddy and I were having a laugh with Aaron in the corridor.  Aaron was dressed but we still needed to be.  I can't remember what was being said but we were joking with Aaron about something and we were laughing but Aaron said to his Daddy "don't be happy at me.  You go away and dress yourself".  We laughed so hard at this, but then we looked at each other as if to say could this bossy wee lad get out of control or take it too far one day!?!?!  Nah he is far too cute to do that!

Said It Saturday - An Audience with Aaron

#SaidItSaturday: it's down there somewhere...

***

Twas the night before Xmas and all through the house.........!

***

Sorry, wrong month!!!

***

Twas the night before Mumsnet Blogfest and all through the house....
All I could hear was the snoring of what sounds like a mouse.

I best get this post done before he awakes,
and then get to bed, before noise he makes!

He'll need energy tomorrow to play with his Daddy,
I don't want Dad to witness the boy with a paddy!

For it's all I have seen all week Dear Child,
so it's off I run, tomorrow I'm WILD!

So if you see me all naked,
with table underfoot

Know I'm a Mum
Who got out when she could!

***

So back to #SaidItSaturday!!!

Am I allowed to say he's cried all week, the end!?!?!?!? No, I didn't think so.

But he has, seriously spent most of the week looking like this:

There HAS however been the odd bit of classic funniness.

Let me scratch my head and try and remember where and when?!?!?!

Oh yes, the other day on the train, he was particularly stressed which meant I was too.  I asked him if he wanted to watch my phone (which means You Tube).  As I normally use the excuse that there is no wifi, he replied with:
"There's no wifi here!"
"Wait till you get home!"
"It's a train!"
There was a silent STUPID or OBVIOUSLY at the end of each and every sentence and dramatic pauses between each statement. There was a piercing stare too.  It wasn't the moment to undermine my own previous instructions and say, "seriously, it works, here's the phone".  So I sat in dumbfounded silence, and chastised my self of the past, who for some reason thought it was a good idea NOT to let Aaron have a phone, probably on a busy train when the noise would have driven everyone nuts.  So instead a different noise, of the human, not You Tube kind was going to instead drive me nuts.  Well done Mum of the past not looking after Mum of the future!

Oh the beast awakes I will finish this later!

The poem above kind of took me by surprise and came out of nowhere but it means I will link this post with Victoria (this can be like a Russian Doll - a linky within a linky!):

Said It Saturday - An Audience With Aaron

Hi, it's that time of week again, when I tell you what Aaron said, and you tell me what your little ones said.  The linky opens on Saturdays but your linked up post can be anything they've said that you've blogged.  Can just be one line that rocked your world, or a wrap-up of the week, or should I say roundup?

So here's mine.

Yesterday 31st October Aaron tripped in the bedroom - long story - I was convinced he was going to get concussion.  Anyway I was in a panic over nothing, and when I took him, and his 3 cousins out trick or treating (the first time I have done trick or treating in my 40 years on this planet) last night, he heard me talking about it and said:
"I don't have cushions, I just have a bruise!" - yeah silly Mummy!
When it came to getting dressed for trick or treating he point blank refused to get dressed up as a pumpkin - a costume that his cousins who are here for a 2 night sleepover bought for him.  Luckily I remembered I had a Lightning McQueen costume in the wardrobe, that despite me spending £16.99 on it in the Summer, Aaron has never worn.  Well thanks be to God he was well excited to get it on last night - it wasn't Halloween-ish, but I just wanted him to be dressed up and he got lots of compliments at every door! I was BLOWN AWAY by how generous people were.  We chose our doors to knock on very wisely, and they'd literally have a bowl, or bucket or basket of GOODIES ready.  The 4 children came back with a Sainsbury's carrier bag full EACH, and they were not just boiled sweets. They got some superb stuff.  When I thought about it last night when I got in I actually got tears in my eyes.  Behind all those closed doors of people leading such separate lives there is a sense of community - it just needs an occasion!!

It took me being 40 years on this planet to do trick or treat and here was Aaron doing it at his young 3 years.  He got so into the spirit of it, that once he and his 3 cousins had each been given their sweet/treat (some people even gave bars of chocolate) he'd loudly shout:
Thank you!
Happy Halloweeen!
at every door we visited.

While waiting for them to answer, they'd hear a loud:
"Trick or treat"
Lucky we didn't have to "trick" anyone as I do not know what that would have involved!

I got so into the idea that I was celebrating Halloween for the first time ever that I even bought some BUNTING!  I got the above in Poundland (skeletons £1 and lightbulb pumpkins £1) and some paper plates etc... Was impressed with them actually.  Why spend a fortune for fun for one day?!?!?

***

Anyway, let me reverse, back to my #SaidItSaturdays recorded from during the week.  They begin on Saturday after I posted last weeks.

I needed to get pull-ups for Aaron on Saturday but it was raining hard.  I said "oh no what am I going to do?"  In an incredibly serious voice, with a mature face Aaron said:
"I have a plan!"
"I'll go in the buggy with the cover"
..."and you put on your hood"
Bless him, he prefers life in the fast lane, on his balance bike, but was prepared to be rained off and slum it! He knows I can't carry a "brolley" and push the buggy so he even tells me what to do with my hood!

Sunday, Daddy wanted to go cinema and Aaron said:
"no! You have to get something"
"From the shop"

Daddy says "What?"

To which Aaron answers, with big wide eyes:
"A wild, wild, dragon"
I wish you could HEAR the way he paused for emphasis on each "wild".

Monday morning we had the WORST storm since 1987 - see the two storms compared here.

I watched it out the window from 6-7 a.m. and as the trees were bending too much, like I have never seen in 12 years of living here, I went back to bed and slept till 09:30.  When Aaron and I woke up I told him he had slept through a really bad storm and he said:"
"No, I dreamed I was outside.  Mummy and Daddy were at work.  I was on my own. In the storm.  I saw the whole thing!"
He was so sure and so serious and said it more than once this week.  Given my love and belief in the supernatural I wouldn't be AT ALL surprised if he did indeed astral travel to go outside and see the storm.  I really wouldn't be shocked - I astral travelled a lot when I was below 10 years of age.

Wednesday, I collected him from nursery and he lifted up the sleeves of his top, and showed me his arms.  He said:
"I have muscles but Oxxxxx took them!"
Bless him!

Thursday, we walked into town after I collected him from nursery.  He'd had a MASSIVE lunch AND pudding at nursery but I was starving.

He kept stopping and starting and I felt like I was going to pass out.  I'd skipped lunch and my blood sugar was clearly off kilter.  I kept saying "Aaron please stop stopping, as Mummy's going to pass out".  Anyway, in the end I ducked into a pizza place that does a superb lunch-time deal, and Aaron said to the man behind the counter:

"Make the pizza quick as my Mummy is melting!"

Trust me, the man looked well confused - I did of course explain. Ha ha he looked even more confused then!!!

That's all for now folks!!!

#SaidItSaturday - an Audience with Aaron

Aaron's been funny pretty much all week but alas I have not noted everything down.

Because Inside The Wendy House's "What Fred Said" has such a good ring to it I have now decided to call mine an "Audience with Aaron" :-)

This was done months ago but this is what he SOUNDS like:

The other night in bed, he was telling me about the new hair salon they have at nursery, and he suddenly looked remorseful - I looked at him in a questioning tone, and he said:
Aaron: I snatched it.  I snatched the dryer off xxx Me: It's not nice to snatch Aaron: I know (cue: more remorseful looks).
I must have been REALLY tired last night when I wrote this post at too late o'clock as the whole reason I included the above in #SaidItSaturday is because the above is not where it ended. With Jake and the Never Land Pirates being Aaron's FAVOURITE TV show he went on to say:
Aaron: I snatched it like Captain Hook Aaron: I was Captain Hook and xxx was Jake!
I love it when their imagination goes into role play mode - he does that with his toys too! Recently I get stressed very easily.  It can be anything: TV too loud, Aaron too loud, somebody chewing, anything.... I decided I should start listening to my yoga mantra CDs for the first time in years.  So Tuesday this week, I played them loud and proud.  Aaron tried to say something and in fact started to:
Me: Sssssh I am listening to MY music Aaron: It's not your music it's everyone's. [Said while gesticulating around the room].  Followed by Aaron: it's ours, yours and mine! [Said in a very deep philosophical voice].
When we were walking to nursery the other day:
Me: come ON Aaron we are going to be late for circle time. Aaron: You're not going to circle time it is just for me! You must go! Bring me to school and then go!
This is because those weeks when he was crying for 40 minutes on drop off and refusing to let me go I stayed for circle time and got told off for doing so by the Head.  Aaron, my clever boy knows that :-(  He hasn't cried in 2 weeks now and just bounces straight in.  Such a relief.  It means I am there 5 mins instead of 40 which is a relief when he is only there 12 hours a week! When I collected him Wednesday:
Aaron: I was naughty during oooh aaah circle time.
I asked the teacher and then she realised what he meant by oooh ahh and said "yes, he was told off for sitting on his knees instead of on his bottom".  This level of strictness bothers me, but unless I am going to become a hippy chick home schooler I need to get over myself! Thursday on the way back from nursery:
Me: I have got you a Scooby-Doo DVD do you want to watch it when we get home? Aaron: yes Me: it's a present Aaron: for me, where is it? Me: at home Aaron: Scooby-Doo is scary! Me: not this one Aaron: is it my birthday? Me: no, not yet, but it's Daddy's soon Aaron: You must get him a present I don't have money Aaron: is it my birthday too? Me: No next year.
The other day I said to him what do you want to buy Daddy for his birthday.  He only thought for a second and said:
Aaron: a robot
Me: why? Aaron: because he likes Titan Me: At Lollibop? Aaron: yes
Bless him that was months ago and he remembers that the whole time we watched Titan Daddy videoed it and didn't want to move away.
I blogged in #SaidItSaturday before that Aaron said "I like your heart" - well he keeps saying it now at least once a day.
Today 26th October (after I published this post last night), this morning Aaron just hasn't let up; he woke saying he wanted to see his cousins.  When I explained that they are in Kent for half term, he said "I'll see them when they get back!"
Then he started on:
"I want to go to Helen's house"
I explained Helen lives in Ireland, to which I got the reply
"let's go to Ireland"
I explained we'd have to get the aeroplane and that I don't have a ticket. He simply stated in reply:
"Get an aeroplane ticket from the aeroplane man"
Yeah silly me why didn't I think of that!!!
I don't ordinarily, as a rule, nick images off Google images, so the above WAS taken by me, when Aaron and I got off the plane back in September, on our recent trip to Ireland :-) I didn't think you were allowed to take photos of planes in full view of staff (for security reasons) but I "winged it" (forgive the pun) and none of them seemed to mind.

Things He Said this Week #SaidItSaturday

It's that time of week again, when I panic and realise I have not published Said It Saturday and I stumble around looking for my phone where I have noted things HE'S said.

All you need is a blog and a little one(s) who says things, and YOU too could join in. Don't just stalk my linky.  I KNOW WHO YOU ARE and I KNOW you have little ones who say things worth blogging about.  BLOG them so you can REMEMBER them in years to come!

Lecture over.

So:

The other day, I wanted to give Aaron a bath and he did not want one.  I think it was Sunday morning, or Monday morning.  We don't always do the bath, bottle, bed routine here; he sometimes has morning ones.  Anyhow I was running around all over the flat after him, and lately I am just too run ragged to do that and my nerves are beyond frayed so I gave up.  Anyhow Daddy was in bed and it turned out Aaron was hiding under the duvet with Daddy's arm over him.  They both kept wondering when I would come, neither realising I had given up the chase.  Daddy apparently said MANY sssshhhhs during that 10 minutes.  When I EVENTUALLY rolled up, or rocked up (as they say), Aaron shouted FROM UNDER THE DUVET:
I not in here!
Daddy must have laughed for 10 minutes at the irony of helping him to hide for ALL that time only for Aaron to go and do that.  Despite being stressed I laughed too.

***

When Aaron really really likes a place, he likes to be able to ask to go again, but he knows he'll need to tell me where he's talking about and that aint always easy, as I will keep saying "where?" as if I am deaf.  So, with that in mind, when we were in Ikea last Saturday, he very cutely said to me:
Where we are?
Now you may wonder WHY am I including such a little thing? Well because it speaks volumes.  He speaks in FULL sentences ALL the time, and uses the correct tense and everything and it always makes me wonder WHERE has my baby gone, so I cling to the times when he says something wrong and I can think he IS 3 years old after all, so the "where we are?" that should be "where are we?" means EVERYTHING to me and I don't correct him.  I still miss him saing BUFFERLY - he now says butterfly perfectly :-( which is why I am delighted that he still calls potatoes ta-po-toes and no I am not correcting him on that either.  My cousin in Ireland kept her brother calling her Roar-ra for years and was GUTTED when he started calling her Laura.  Until I became a Mum I didn't at all understand.

***

Another little thing I want to record for posterity is that whenever one calls Aaron anything other than his name, i.e. a "baby" or "naughty" he always shouts at the top of his voice:
"No I not, I Aaron"
it's never I am Aaron, (there's also the lack of I'm in no I not) and again, I find it cute.  I could show you videos of how well he speaks, and one day I will, and then you will understand why I treasure the odd bit of baby talk so so so close to my heart.

If you read my Ikea post you will know that Aaron went into Småland hours AFTER us doing our shopping when it is meant to be a place that they care for your child in while you shop.  To add insult to injury when he decided to go in there, there was an hour wait for the next slot available.  It meant he went in at 17:20 despite us having been at Ikea since midday just to put it into perspective/context.  Anyhow, whenever I get fatigued which is USUALLY after dark when I have my PJs on, the 1st thing I do is plait my hair.  Well having been in Ikea for hours and now facing the prospect of waiting an hour for his Småland appointment and then finding myself something to do for the hour whilst he'd be in there, I sat plaiting my hair.  Aaron looked at me and said:
"I'm glad I am not a girl so I don't have to do THAT!"
Well excuse me, but I thought I adopted a relaxed face whilst plaiting - obviously NOT!

****

Last Sunday, Aaron said to me:
"I want to go to the shop with you but I'm busy"
I looked up from my computer confused and he giggled and said
"Just joking"
He's going through a phase where he LOVES to say JUST JOKING.

And whenever he hopes I am not serious about something he says:
"You're just joking Mummy?"
***

This Wednesday for no apparent reason, and I can't remember WHAT we were doing but he just looked at me and said:
"Mummy I love you and I like your heart"
Now that dear reader REALLY blew me away!

***

He is VERY sensitive to energy which is what I KNEW was causing the problem with him not settling at nursery the last few weeks - he has now by the way (10th October Thursday was the 1st day he did not cry and then all 3 days this week he has not cried.  Such a relief when I was spending 40 minutes there each time I would drop him off with him crying and that doesn't include the time it would take to get there and then get back.  40 minutes in the building, in the room with him crying and clinging to my leg. He's never ever been a boy to do THAT).

Anyhow as if to prove his sensitivity to energy the other night I was watching the one hour special, on TV, of Coronation Street (I think again it was Wednesday) where Roy and Hayley went to Blackpool.  As they walked out onto the Ballroom floor I welled up and felt my heart swell with emotion.  Aaron wasn't even looking at me and he put his toys down, came over and said:
"You're not going to cry Mummy?"
He used to say that last year too, when I kept watching the video that Multiple Daddy made again and again and crying. (For new readers: Kerry blogged at Multiple Mummy and sadly passed away on 14th December 2012 - all who knew her, on and offline miss her terribly).

***

At the moment he likes "school" (nursery really) if he can wear something special there.  I never let Aaron wear clothes 2 days in a row, but he had to go to nursery 2 days in a row this week as Spiderman and I let him, for an easy life as the 40 minutes of leg clinging (I elaborated on above) is rather traumatic for us BOTH!  Anyway, he has a new t-shirt that I got recently in Kiddicare.  It's Angry Birds and I think it was only a fiver.  Anyway he has no idea who they are, has never played or heard of the game but he somehow knew it was cool and asked me to buy it.  I know how much he likes it, so on his 3rd day of nursery I used it as Spiderman outfit distraction and put it on him, which then meant he didn't really want a hoodie ontop, but I insisted on that and a bodywarmer to walk him to school.  On the way there he was already mentally preparing himself that he'd be taking the outer layers off, to show off his t-shirt, but then he said something that broke my heart:

"I can't take it off as they'll say my arms are silly"
I said what do you mean, to which he said:
"they're scratchy!"
So he remembered, despite having his outer garments on, that the t-shirt is short-sleeved and despite us being 10 minutes away he was already fretting about getting his arms out.  His eczema has come back lately.  Since he has been in this older room at nursery he talks about THEY really often.  Since he started talking about THEY whoever they bloody well are, he has become incredibly fussy about what he wears. It used to be up to me, and dressing him is now really stressful, now that he is so self-conscious. I did not expect this at 3 years of age and would quite frankly like to give THEY a good talking to!!!!! and a peace of my mind.  Slip of the tongue there that should obviously say piece of my mind, but maybe it is peace I want!  I know that THEY are four and Aaron is three.  Sometimes I wish the room was not a 3-5 room and sometimes I wish that THEY were already at school, where they'd be with boys as old as themselves who can deal with their nonsense.  Other things have happened to.  THEY have taken his shoes off and said THEY have done so because he (Aaron) is a baby.  I think THEY feel threatened because Aaron is the same height as them despite being a lot younger.

***

The same day as above (this Thursday) I dropped him at nursery an hour early, as I had to rush off to a posh Breakfast Blogger Buggy event (Joolz).  On the way there I said a couple of times "COME ON" "Don't make me miss my train!".

At one point he realised what I was saying and said

"you don't need to get a train, school is THIS way".

Bless him, my Aaron is nothing if not LITERAL.

I published this post without remembering the thing that he said, that I loved THE MOST this week.

On Thursday when I collected him from nursery I said "do you want to go to Sandra's house and see her truck? She's moving house and you can say goodbye to her"  He said "no" so I said "but Aaron she was a big part of your life".  She looked after him in 2011 for five months (from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.) when I would go to work, after maternity leave, and I was waiting for his nursery place to become available.  Anyway when I said "she was a big part of your life" he was behind me on his balance bike and he mumbled
"you are my life".
I thought I MUST not have heard correctly.  So I turned round 180 degrees and said

"Aaron what did you say?"

He somehow realised it was special and said, in a frustrated shy voice"
"I said she's not! [He shouted the "not"]. YOU are my life".
I was quite frankly blown away - he really really shocks me the things he says, and then a week later I have forgotten them.  I am really really glad I have a blog to record them on, but then I have been saying that since he started uttering his first words over 2 years ago, and yet it is ONLY the pressure of #SaidItSaturday that quite literally forces me to record them, which is why I think YOU Dear Reader, should do the same and join in, so you can note them all down for posterity. Just think how much fun they will have reading this when they are 18 years of age, or getting married.

#SaidItSaturday - Saturday Blog Hop linky for recording the precious things our little ones say

So I am being organised and posting this on a Friday so that you can all link up early in the morning if you want to.

I HAVE been recording notes on my phone, every time Aaron's said something funny or precious although I should not say EVERY time as there have been a few where I have thought I won't forget THAT and yet I have......

Anyhow here we go:

So the other day we walked into town to the shops and I didn't want him to drag his heels and his bike on the way home the way he did on the way there, so as we neared home I said Aaron come on, Mummy's arms are going to fall off because this shopping is so heavy (I'd carried it for a 30 minute walk).

His reply took me by surprise:
"But you won't be able to..."

"Work on your pooter"
In the couple of seconds pause between the two halves of that sentence, my life flashed before me, and I thought what does HE think I won't be able to DO.  I NEVER expected THAT answer.

Whenever I am blogging or social media-ing I do tell him that I am working, and clearly it has sunk in - ooooooops! He considers my "work" as serious as Daddy's.  Bless him.  When he was young I did work from home on Mondays and Fridays but that is because I only worked the other 3 days (paid in an office) and was stupid enough to work on my 2 days off.  He couldn't possibly remember those days though as he only turned 3 in June and I was made redundant July 2012.

Oh, and 5 minutes later, when I was still striding ahead, pace making, and he was dawdling on the balance bike behind me (which is unusual as he more often that not whizzes off and has to wait for me at every curb) the penny must have dropped that "arms falling off" is just a figure of speech as he said:
"Mummy you're just being silly?"
He must have been fixated with anatomy after that as later on, at the dinner table he pointed to a gap between two fingers and told me he wanted an extra finger there and when I asked why, he said
"to make webs".
Well... obviously, my son wants to be Spiderman, so I should have known! Silly Mummy! Thank God he met him at the Circus last Thursday hey!

***

Following on with the literal theme, as he is often, now that he's turned three.  The other night I was at my wit's end as he's been in bed a lot at 20:30 lately and I have been getting spoilt, after 3 years of a late to bed baby/toddler.  Anyway I was stressed the other night as he was still up and I said "Aaron it's quarter to ten" and he said:
"How do you know?"
I showed him my phone and computer and he said:
"It's right there [pointing out to the kitchen wall and said] on the yellow clock"
There was a definite silent "stupid" on the end of that exclamation.  He can't read the time, but he's clearly worked out the place to do so if he was that way inclined!!! His point must have been that I couldn't see that clock from where I was when I said it was quarter to ten!  Don't ever cross a determined 3 year old, oh and don't get me started on Ds...... D for determined, D for defiant, D for discipline, D for disobedient..... Whoever invented terrible twos, must have been too busy dealing with the threes to talk about it.  Can't remember who told me the term THREENAGER but there was never a better word for it!!!

Oh, you remember I said a few weeks ago that I was going to Ireland for a wedding... Well that was the wedding of my favourite cousin.  After getting married she has now decided to settle in London (after having been in Oz for 5 years till the wedding) as she did grow up in London, till the age of 15, at which point she moved to Ireland.... Anyway, still with me? So, she is back in London, and me and Aaron visited her on Monday (yes I know it should be Aaron and I, but that is NOT the way I talk) and while there, I happened to tell a story to my cousin that involved me singing the Saw Doctor's classic "I used to love her, I used to love her once, a long long time ago".  I just assume everyone knows it, but I found out when chatting to someone the other day, that unless you're Irish, you don't.  Well anyway, Aaron must have heard me singing it, as we had a 2 hour journey on public transport back from my cousin's.  Aaron kept singing "one more time ago, ONCE, one more time ago ONCE" (putting real emphasis on the ONCE) all the way home.  In the right toon! Bless him! I am going to link to it, just in case you are remotely interested.  You might be Irish, dear reader, or just nosey, or perhaps you like country.  Anyway it is a very good very catchy toon, look, click here: I Used To Love Her Once

***

And just a couple of Said Its from TODAY:

We had a hideous journey home from soft play tonight which saw me, Aaron, my friend and her little boy on THREE trains, that resulted in us needlessly going through zone 1, during peak hours with all the commuters. It was hideous.  We had to squash ourselves, two boys, a bike and a buggy on the train.  Anyway at one point Aaron sees me looking into space, in that gormless way you do when you are on sardine public transport.  You know the "don't talk to me" London Transport face.  Anyway Aaron at the top of his voice says:

"Mummy why do you look like THAT?" When I pretend not to hear him, for modesty's sake, he won't let it drop and keeps asking and starts to imitate my face saying:
"Your eyes are like THAT!" [Cue: many theatrical demos]

The man next to me was pissing himself laughing, so I said "sorry Aaron I am adopting the zombie face that is a prerequisite for traveling on a commuter train".  90% of the carriage were in such a zombie state that the whole exchange went completely over their heads.  Medical research has actually confirmed that people turn off their senses on a packed out train, so as to protect their nervous system from over stimulation.  Oh aren't I very glad that I am a SAHM now.  For anyone reading this who is not a Mum that means Stay At Home Mum, except er, we don't, stay at home, very often. Yes, I might be a SAHM but I am not a housewife......... #fail.

***

Tonight I was showing him pics from our wedding album, as on Monday we'll have been together 25 years (married for 12).  He looked at the first half and it was all group photos and then he stumbled across one of me on my own and said:
"Mummy where has everyone gone?  You'll be lonely.  You'll cry!"
Bless him.

Anyway, please record the precious things your littlies say, blog about them and hook up here.  All welcome.
